The Rumour Thread

I heard somewhere that the core book or maybe some artidcle talks about how during 3.0 we will go to a different realm each year. First up is Ghur. This one is obvious but also looking at GHB2021 you can tell it's all about Ghur.  So, assuming we get 3 years out of this edition, what are the other two?

The two armies we know are coming are Dark Elves from Ulgu and Chaos Dwarves (or Destruction dwarves?!?).  So it seems like one year will be Ulgu, which is cool, haven't been there yet. Maybe DoK gets some new units.

If the 4 chan rumor above has anything to it, the third is Azyr. Also a place we haven't really been much.

2021: Ghur. Kruelboyz, Dawnbringer Crusade
2022(interlude): Ulgu: Malerion's Aleves (+ more units for DOK!?)
2023(finale): Azyr invasion: Chaos Dwarves.

What are your theories?

Not sure how true this is but its fun to predict.

Now 1.0 the major realms that were shown was:

Aqshy
Ghyran

2.0 focused on these two:

Shyish
Eight-Points

3.0 will definitely focus on Ghur.  Now I think Ulga is a decent bet but I also think Post-Broken Realms and the rise of Grungi that Chamon will get some major focus

Two sets of the folding boards are needed for the new table size?

The description of the two-pack that went up for preorder yesterday says that together they're "the perfect size for your 1,000 point games." Now, I don't know if table size and army points scale up at exactly the same rate, but if they do, looks like, yeah.

So what do we need in a Maggotkin wave ?

1. Plastic Epidemius ?

2. Plastic Festus

3. Any chance of a new troop unit ?

New Harbi?
Endless spells?
Small flying skirmishers?

Battletome != wave.  I personally think a Nurgle wave is unneeded and unlikely, and would dislike to see it at the expense of other armies (even though it's my largest faction).
1. Nurgle got one of the last WHFB waves (Glottkin, Maggoth Lord, Blightkings, Gutrot Spume, Harbinger, Lord of Plagues)
2. Nurgle got another big wave in 2018 (GUO, Spoilpox, Sloppity, Horticulus, Beast of Nurgle,  Pusgoyle Blightlords, lord of blights
3. the rest of the army is only from 2012(drones, plaguebearers, nurglings, etc). 10 years is not a very long time, if you look at some of the kits the other armies are lugging around.

So... I don't think nurgle is getting touched for a while, but could be wrong.  They are getting a book now because they did not get one in AoS 2.0. All of the other rumored early battletomes are much more deserving of a model wave...

Any news or rumors about a skaven refresh / wave floating around? I'm not sure if I want to keep playing with the current rules of no fun allowed while having models from the clinton administration.

Skaven are still being punished for causing the end of the Old World.  I think by 4.0 we might forget enough to let our little rodent friends get some new toys.

As much as I want to believe that Whitefang meant Idoneth were coming....that 4chan leak did say Maggotkin were some of the first to get new battletomes.

I can't remember a time that a leaker has ever given a schedule for more than half a year in advance - I think the last time was, ironically, the existence of AoS and maybe the Primaris model that led to three months of "it's a third party conversion" talk.

If the 4chan 'leaks' are real I'd be very, very, very, shocked considering they go all the way up to 2023.

9th edition was spoiled in november of the previous year, but that's still only 8-9 months or so.

Pestigors would fit in line with other releases but who knows we might just get a new hero.

Nurgle's had a decent amount of stuff. The End Times units, their Battletome gave them a new wave, plus the updated Daemons models. I wouldn't be surprised if all they got were Endless Spells and maybe a Hero, updated or otherwise.

So the rumours then nurgle vs ogor box then beasts vs gloomspite lol

i doubt both would happen in such a short span, they tend to spread the boxes out and between their game system.

i would only expect them to release only one AoS box after Dominion this year in Q3, and the next one you some time next year after a good amount of BT are release

Nurgle’s got a lot of attention overall but it’s weighted in a few directions: big centrepiece models, something like 9 special characters and a host of specialist heroes. They still have the most narrow range of any chaos god when it comes to actual units: four daemon units and two mortal ones. And then all the 40k stuff, which tends to get lumped in in people’s memories.

Given that Nurglite chaos warriors/marauders/StD units no longer count as battleline for Maggotkin, they could really do with another mortal unit or two so you’re not entirely locked into plaguebearers or blightkings as your backbone. Pestigors or some sort of death’s head plague-slingers or shambling men-at-arms in the Order of the Fly mode.

I reckon the most Nurgle will get for a while is a plastic hero (this could be anything from something new to an updated Harbinger of Decay, Epidemius, Festus, etc) and a Pestigor unit, as well as some Endless Spells. But aside from that, they’re practically complete. I could see them being pitted against another army that hasn’t had an update in a while like the BoC or the Nighthaunt. Just throw in a nice plastic hero for both sides and boom, new release done.

I'm torn because I really want my Mawtribes updated but I also want to see what the design team could do to update BOC and Spiderfang.

Battle boxes aren't the only option for an army update. Honestly that's not usually where they get updated. It's almost always "what excess  junk do we have around  in the warehouse for these two armies?" And include 2 new small, exclusive heroes to move it.

Usually significant waves are their own thing.

There was a bit of an abnormal example last year (or year before) where STD got a new start collecting box with new sculpts. I could see that happening for beasts or gutbusters. Better than nothing but those are monopose and don't replace the existing kits.more of a bandaid.
