Yep @KingBrodd. Honestly the three options are great, after all.

Gordrakk, Vampires, Slaanesh - it can't come soon enough !!!

Honestly they all are so awesome and at least 2 of them are actually happening!!

Whatever else drops gw will release aos3 in June-August 2021. Their whole financial year rests on having a tent pole release in q1 of their financial year.

aos is running 4 months behind but they’ll get all the planned battletomes out by June, they’ll just push back some 40K or specialist games and we’ll then probably see less aos post summer 2021

Is people still believing in AoS 3.0 this summer? Unless broken realms is made of 2 books or they double the books in spring I see it highly unlikely they are still on schedule...

Personally, I doubt it. There's a few more Broken Realms books to go, a lot of Warhammer 40K stuff (since we are going to get a lot of codexes now that the new edition is out) and not to even mention other games. If they need to delay some releases a bit, I would probably bet on finishing Broken Realms event in 2021, and then announcing AoS 3 either in late 2021 or some time in 2022. Oh, and there's "WH: the Old World" as well...

Guys, they need 3 months to release Slaneesh, do you really think gw is going to have malerion/vampires/whatever ready for february?

YES! Along with a full revamp of Eldar and Exodites

I mean I can dream - Christmas is a time for dreams righ!

Unfortunately I think you’re on the money. The new battle tome will be slaanesh I reckon. Which means they’ll probably be the last book before the new edition...

If anything got delayed majorly, it was the Old World. It was years away at announcement and because everyone knew that going in, it would make sense for it to be the first on the list of delays.

Old World was definitely never 2021. I don't know that COVID delays Old World at all. For a business like GW, COVID primarily impacts shipping/supply chain and manufacturing. Old World doesn't need either of those things for years.

If I had to guess the main reveals are going to be the new Slaanesh mortals we haven't gotten a decent look at.

And then maybe a teaser trailer for an undead themed Warhammer Quest, which ideally will eventually lead into a undead release (in the vein of the Tzeentch stuff in Silver tower).

tangibly specialist games probably get the delays the most, not sure if Underworld is going to keep their roadmap with the new schedule. Necromunda and blood bowl are probably also delay as well

while i am not sure if GW is going to delay the next  edition, since 40k pretty much  got through their launch in mist of the pandemic as well, i have a feeling they just bull doze there way to releasing it by October especially that they probably have a good chunk of the new edition done by now.

in truth they only need 4 more broken realm books to cover every faction in AoS, monthly release of those books probably get them all out by June/july.

I think it is impossible to say, but it is clear that things have fallen behind. I think that what we can infer is that a new edition was likely in the summer at the end of Broken Realms but now we are even less sure about that as things are releasing at a strange rate. The Slaanesh Warcry reveal is a perfect example of how strange the release windows have become.

On a side note I am very excited for tomorrow's rumour engine advent picture.

Its mostly that GW had this structure for 40k leading up to an edition shift as well.

personally I’m with you. I can’t image aos needing such big changes it warrants an edition change.
on the other hand it will inevitably garner a lot of excitement and with that sales.

the only I would want from a 3.0 is if they could reverse the power creep. 2+ rerollling saves battleline that redeploys before the game start is just no fun. Just like 1+ unrendable save monsters.

I personally think the timeline will be:

Slaanesh battletome announcement today

Release of the line in February

First Death stuff (like the Underworlds Warband) in March

Release of Death within 3 months

That seems realistic to me given the recent timeframes between the reveal of the Dread Pageant and the Slawnesh release.

Would be nice if they cleaned up all saves now that the battletomes are all out. 4+ is probably the highest saves on Battleline should go without expending a resouce.

Just FYI, the Christmas announcement is tomorrow, not today. Just so you aren’t waiting around all day or anything!

What is the driving force for a new edition? I feel like 2.0 is good and I’m not particularly keen to rebuy battletomes again yet.

Whilst I’d say there’s probably been enough little rules and extra bits and bob’s added to justify a tidy up and a new edition of the core rule book, I honestly would say it has little to do with the system.

Soul Wars / Tempest of Souls / Storm Strike will all be 3 years old this sumner, and whilst it’s still a great set of models I imagine the number of people buying them now is a trickle compared to what it was.

So new trio of starter sets, along with the attendant marketing hype, and you not only shift a boat load to existing players but you generate a load of interest, press attention and on-board a whole new set of people.

And if you’re doing a new starter set then it stands to reason you’d do a new core book, advance the storyline, and tidy up the rules/import any interesting bits that have worked in 40Ks last edition.

So in those terms i think a ‘new edition’ every 3 years is about right then, though marketing aside I don’t really think in terms of AoS2/3 etc really anymore, at least for the foreseeable future. it’s more like different seasons of the same game, a constant evolution of the story, each starter set sets the arc for the next few years and fiddles with the rule set without changing it so much it feels like a genuine new game, especially as there’s other routes, Warcry, Underworlds, Quest etc to explore different ideas.
