And this is why I cant get into 40K. They have literally endless possibilities and wont try anything new. I'm hoping to be proven wrong with 9th Edition and maybe theyll drop a sneaky new Xeno army.

They will release a new Xenos army after they release every Space Marine Primarch and all of the Chaos Factions... and then the Xenos army will be sidelined by the lost legion of mauve marines!!

I would rather have a 2nd wave for all the current factions (soup like lon and cos excluded) than they keep releasing new armies. In 40k most armies have 20+ units to choose from.  Also you don't get crappy but mandatory terrain for your army.

40k has loads of stupid ****** to be fair though. See anything produced by forgeworld.

I agree, selfishly after the Sons are released. Maybe for 3.0 we wont have any new armies and that all the 2.0 armies are simply updated with more models. Fyreslayers and FEC are in need of new units and hell maybe 3.0 will bring about one of the other Aspects of the Lumineth.

I feel like something new is coming for Idoneth this year. My heart says embailor (hero that controls beasts), my head says a crappy warband for Underworlds or Warcry.

Unsolved evidence...

That first unsolved I could see being a fancy Daughter of Khaine from the new Warcry band which we've only seen 3 models for ages ago. If I were a betting person I'd wager GW is going to aim for one warband per army for Warcry and keep warcry around mid-long term. It's a fantastic delivery tool for terrain and its card setup makes it fast to get games going. If they can get one box out per faction for the game then each army can jump in with a one-box purchase. The rest of the units then act as tasters - making it into the ideal intro game to the Fantasy setting for those on the fence.

@Overread is there any warcry warbands that you would personally like to see added to any armies?

All of them?!

I mean I'd likely just plug for armies I play myself - DoK, Slaanesh, Ossiarchs. I think so long as GW balances them into the core game in a sensible manner it will be fine. They might experiment - right now the Chaos Warbands are all the same kind of affair - a basic unit profile with a few light specialists (extra hit, extra life etc...). I could see some of them branch out further; eg they could put a  support leader into the set for example so that it was perhaps 8 infantry and 1 support leader (so you might buy several boxes to make a full unit, but might not use all the support leaders at the same time etc...).

I'd not like to see most armies get multiple warbands; the highly individual designs to many of them are ok for a one unit wonder and it blends well into Slaves to Darkness; but it would be overkill for most other armies. That said I'm sure that armies like DoK will get "second wave" and additional models over time. Heck DoK could do with a cheap leader (right now you have to get a getting started set or a cauldron set to get any leader - that's a lot if GW is looking to lower barriers to entry). OF course that cauldron set gives you 3 leaders - each one of which can be mounted on the cauldron/shrine and the option of an avatar unit as well.

I'd absolutely love all of the armies to get new models, especially armies such as FEC, Fyreslayers, Seraphon and Skaven.

Who knows even Sons of Behemat may get a model with a new Aleguzzler variant or simply a mid range Gargant kit!!

I feel like the warcry bands will be "army adjacent".  The elf warband we were given a glimpse of serves at Morathi's behest, but they don't appear to be full-fledged Daughters of Khaine. I imagine any other warbands released will be along the same lines, not necessarily a proper part of the army, but affiliated with it in some capacity.

I'd be willing to put solid money on a Devoted of Sigmar warband for the Stormcast, and possibly a "soulbound" party for CoS.

I'm very interested in the Crab Claw Rumour Engine. It screams Idoneth to me and a Giant Crab would be perfect.

There is gonna be a gap post Indomitus where other stuff happens before the Necron/Primaris multiparts release. I imagine Lumineth will fit there.

Maybe
Pariah preoder 27th
Indomitus preorder 4th, 2 week time so release 18th

Then from 18th onwards a gap for stuff like Underworlds, Lumineth, whatever

I think this is probably likely. Also the arm and sword image, part of me is saying Soulblight rather than aelf.

Still I am going to hold out hope that we get an Idoneth vs DoK army box with updates and models for both.

I maintain that this image is something related to DoK, the diamond cut gem and slanted attachment to the shaft are identical to the Blood Sister spears, and the coiled/twisting decoration is similar to the ornamental serpents on the Bloodwrack Medusa spear.  The chain/rosary bead looking element is not something seen before in DoK designs, however.

For me the only question is whether it's something for the Warcry release or if it heralds further DoK stuff beyond that.

I'm really interested to see what Warcry war bands come out- I'd love a KO/dwarf one [maybe a dwarf ranger one referencing Bugman's rangers?].I'd love a Kurnothi one but I doubt they would use Warcry to bring new models out for that until the visit them as a faction/sylvaneth extension. Also though I think, regardless of the faction, they could be very collectable as you aren't committing to building up a small force and there should  be variety across the set.

It will be interesting see how GW approaches adding new waves/models to existing factions. Although I'm not convinced they will yet, thyecould continue to evolve factions with older factions fading into the background, possible before being revisited again much later.. who knows, but that was the original plan for AoS allegedly and there is no sense that that may have changed.

What I could see is reusing the Underworld molds and adding a new one. This would be a lot cheaper than making a dedicated mold for all the characters specifically for Warcry.

For instance: Thundrik's Profiteers + 5 other models, Kurnothi + 5 new Kurnothi etc

I’m actually not so sure how many players buy the specialist games boxes explicitly for the specific specialist game anyway. For most it seems to just be a way to add some variety/conversion material to their own project, whatever it may be. For me it surely is. 😎

A Duardin Dispossed Ranger Warband would be incredible. Just like the Kurnothi it would be a fantastic tease for what may be to come for AOS Duardin.

I'd also love Skaven to get either a Clan Eshin or Clan Moulder Warband. A perfect way to upgrade some of the older Night Runner and Gutter Runner models or alternatively give us actual good Rat Ogor models. The current ones are horrible in my opinion.

So, a new pic from the Rumour Engine.

Maybe Grotbag Scuttler 🤩?

If only!!

I have a feeling the next few weeks Rumour Engines will be almost all 40K based unfortunately. I was hoping for something at least for AOS on the rumour front as our news is in quite a drought these days Haha.
