The Rumour Thread

That cultist hate is real here. Which is fun. Cultists are somehow a new kind of unit, they are not just chaff battleline with an ability, but actually thoose are cheap and versatile units, able to do some neat sheningans.

Splintered Fang are great for Sacrifices within the Cabalites as they regenerate a model each hero phase. Also they are a nice bodyguard to a sorcerer due to their poison weapons.

Corvus are fast and cheap and can fly. Therefore they are great to go for some objective quick. Especially in a Ravagers list, which allows them to spawn somewhere hidden on the board edge.

Unmade can be a real danger as they have a profile worth of a hero and also that -1 bravery, which can be stacked quite high with Archaon, Catshpinx and Knights.

Iron Warriors Thingies are tanky with a 4+ save (that can be rerolled if I remember correctly?) and therefore are good for holding some backfield objectives without to have to fear shooting too much.

The list goes on. Each Cultist Unit is specialised, but therefore actually good at a certain task. Also, neat sculpts and as they are not battleline, noone should argue that gw want´s to force sales by powercreep.

I am wondering if the tease of something „giant“ followed up by this:

might herald a new mammoth 🤔

Nah, these are so very clearly the AoS Imperial Ka-niggits Giants.

The top pic is for an enormous horned  helmet, the middle a giant club or swingy thing, and the bottom for a massive bow made up of Kharadron overlord iron clad hull ribs.  Failing that, the giant thinks its a bit of a musician and will be playing motivational harp come strummy thing.

You'll also get a bag of Johans and other fleeing peasants to sprinkle on it like nurglings on a great unclean one, or placed in a howdah which it will wear as a massive crows nest on top of the horned helmet with hearing trumpets built into it (probably scavanged from the ironclad as well) so they can tell it what's going on around it.

You wait till you see the Johan Prime model and warscroll.... oh yea.

GW does not want to update old armies they want people to buy the new fire dwarves fish elves and bonemen made of bones. Slaves to darkness and cities of sigmar will both be gone as factions within a few years.

Releasing no new models for this release is crazy. Those old marauders and chaos warriors are bad enough.

But to not replace the fine cast chosen? I am gobsmacked. That's just pure craziness right there.

All the models released for the faction in the 8th edition Warriors of Chaos book were with the AoS aesthetic, warshrine, chariot, crushers etc.

So in the period when AoS landed they (GW) made it quite clear that as the game evolved new factions would come in and old factions phased out - but the caveat was sales dependency.   You may find that in two editions time the old world sclulpts are no longer around and the that the various warbands are the new marauders, who knows, but Slaves to darkness are still there in the same way that goblins are still there as gloomspite.

The chosen.. well for me, like you,  that was a surprise.

Again, if you're "thoretically" going to release a multipart warriors kit, it wouldn't be too hard to put chosen in there, or alternatively have a box of five super beefed angry tin cans in the same style as blightkings, which lets face it, to all intents and purposes are nurgle chosen  in some respect, but my money is on a warriors / chosen multipart box in the future.  It makes sense for production reasons.

I think the terrible manticore lord kit could have dome with a birthday but hey ho.

As for fish men and kitbash Nagash's bitsbox army, nobody knows what will stay and waht will go in the popularity stakes. New factions will come and go, and some like our slaves will just refuse to keel over and die.

Every edition of warhammer has had its casualties either from the factory or from the buying public who have decided that they weren't good enough - Brets being a prime example.  Since fifth edition they hadn't had any love to the point they were too far gone and you have a chicken and egg where studio won't rewrite, develop, renew as the the boxes aren't shifting off the shelves.  I'd rewrite brets and it would be a block buster but hey, who'd listen!

For me I was hoping that we'd see the end to anything resin with this release, so a box of warriors with great weapons and halberds and some plastic chosen - which I hasten to add have been cried out for almost as long as the nuns with guns.

The only thing you can do is give constructive feedback and keep asking at every opportunity you get - events, feedback loops, etc.

Store managers have a meeting regularly at head office - keep bending the ear of your store  managers - they can't change the world but they can present your voice.

If you're in London go into GW Tottenham Court road - they are the celestant primes of the store community with their heads so shrouded in a cloud of utter smug that you'd think they float on air (that store makes more in one day than most stores have as a monthly spend target) - bend the ears of those guys and that manager - When he goes up to the mothership and says "all anyone wants to talk about and keep bending my ear about is plastic chosen..."

Chosen are in that bret paradox loop at the moment, as are blood knights.  Stupidly expensive,  and resin.  The accountants at head office don't see stock moving off the shelves.  So their black and white spread sheet world says no.

Go to throne of skulls and make a point of telling staff that your big things unit is a unit of chosen but the current models are too awful/old/expensive/whatever for you to contemplate buying.  If All the armies have a chosen unit but don't have chosen models, the mothership might open one eye and think...hang about.. :)

I agree. The only problem I have with the cultists is that it will be difficult to avoid clones. The exact same dwarf, iron golem and etc... .

The only other negative is no new marauders.

The cultists are not all Terrible sculpts but the crows and the cypher lords will barely fit with most chaos warrior heavy armies. And the fact these are all monopose and highly individualistic models means that to claim its eight new boxes of troops is rather disengenious.

If they were. Multi part plastic kits like the necromunda gangs I would say that would be much better. As it is I might buy one box of iron golems but they definitely won't be something I invest heavily in. Whereas new marauders? New chosen? New warriors I would have bought thousands of pounds worth.

Eh, even is Warcry hadn’t been done, I would much rather have the 8 cult units than new marauders. They are much more visually interesting and allow people to choose what function their army has/ what they look like rather just having a single option. Also if the WU Darkoath kit is what new Marauders would look like I would rather have ANY of the cult units as I think the Darkoath WU models are some of the most visually boring models GW has ever released.

I am a huge fan of Slaves (played then for 3 editions of fantasy) and will be starting an army with the new book and since Warriors / Knights are getting modern resculpts. I personally think we got spoiled for new models. So far we are getting

1. Resculpted Warriors

2. Resculpted Knights

3. 8 Cult Units

4. The Formoroid

5. The awesome Cat/Sphinx thing

6. The Myrmidon

7. The new Hero on Monster

We will almost certainly get multipart Warriors and Knights later (like the New Shadowspeae box and the new CSM), and hopefully the Warriors can be assembled as Chosen.

I can't recall if the release spreadsheet leak went past releases on the 14th, I don't think it did. Which makes sense as the release date after that is the 21st which is right bang next to Christmas, that's cutting it fine even for GW in their current state. If you consider:

Preview 8th
Pre order 14
Release 21st

That's very close to Christmas. Even though GW doesn't seem to shut down much, by that time things are into holiday mode for them and chances are they'll have their plate full just producing stock for current product lines. Heck the Tyranid Christmas box has already sold out from GW (so its running on physical stock in stores and 3rd party retailers). I'd imagine the Adepticus Titanicus one will follow suit as that's an exceptionally nice deal for AT players.

@Raviv I wouldn't expect much to be honest, anything that went up today, would be on pre-order next week and then on sale just a few days before Christmas, last year we did get the Wrath & Rapture set in that slot, but that had already been teased for a while (and I think still confused a lot of people being released so close to Christmas).

I think previous years have had some 'Easy-To-Build' variations of existing models (2017) and make to order stuff (2016) in their respective windows.

Still you never know, they might have something sneaky hidden up their big Santa sleeve but I I imagine if anything it will probably be something like the ETB or MTO releases, or some gifty type non model business (though even there things like the Underworlds 'gift pack' are already out).

Maybe it's a good time to finally release that dual box heroes? That would make really nice and small holiday gifts for hobbyists.

The bloodbowl team is actually quite significant, since I'm pretty sure this is the first time a set of models have gotten a second Made to Order run. Nothing else has ever come back after a made to order. So it shows that it is possible, and could maybe happen with other stuff!

Unfortunately it probably also means that there aren't plans for an updated Chaos Dwarf team any time soon, but you never know right?

I'll say what I said earlier in this thread. GW does not put models into books they have not shown. So the tyrants have been show. the Scions have not.

Even if they are not on general release if they have been in a box set or previewed they will be in books.

True but those books have been printed months ago so they decided all that time it was: A not possible to release It In time from a production standpoint. Or B because it makes more marketing sense to release it later.
normally I would say it’s B. But it’s weird though right? Their dropping models left right and centre for Warcry, now the tome of champions without extra quests for scions of the flame, an incomplete battletome and missing the Christmas spot for a model release for Warcry. I don’t see the marketing angle.

so I’m guessing it’s due to Production capacity not being able to support also scions of the flame.

Don't forget the marauders, their buffs are absolutely massive. Double the attacks, guaranteed +1 to hit and -1 rend at 20+ models, minimum 8" charge with a drummer. Toss in a sorcerer lord for full rerolls to hit, wound and save, a chaos lord for double activation... if they stay at 120 points for 20 I think they're in the running for best battleline in the whole game. Chaos sorcerer is amazing too, the change to his spell and oracular vision are ridiculous. I'm waiting to see points, but I'm loving these changes.

It's going to make the Ravagers Merc company way more useful.

Wasn’t there supposed to be some sort of preview at Pax Unplugged? They said they would have unreleased models in the display case. Who knows, they may just be the models of things that have already been previewed. I was expecting the Scions of the Flame or something though.

"Unreleased" may mean the Warcry Spire Tyrants & 3 monsters / the new StD SC! ?

Technically those aren't released yet (but next week end)....

They just previewed some lord of the rings stuff, but I got the impression that was at an Lotr tournament rather than at PAX, unless they were the same eventn

Different events from what I gather, Throne of Skulls at Warhammer world, and Pax Unplugged in the States.
