Sorry a bit of topic but do we know when the new slaves to darkness book will release and if it will still have units like marauders that can be marked? I just finished converting poxwalkers into nurgle marauders and I'd like to know if I should bother painting them

Well...

To be completely honest and accurate, it's not so much a matter of "when"  the new slaves book is coming, as it is a matter of "if" the new slaves book is coming.  Still no proper rumours/leaks, only assumptions that it's coming because it makes sense that it would be coming.

It's pretty much when. Chaos are the big enemy of Sigmar and the setting in general. The generic chaos warrior and such is not going to be removed from the game.

So it a case of when rather than if; though they could rename the faction and also add or remove models.

If the ogre release does prove to be more than a plastic tyrant and a new merged battletome, I will flip out.

Agreed. Based on the Sylvaneth release, we should all lower our expectations for the "refreshed" armies. If you rule out endless spells, terrain, and units shared with Underworlds, the Sylvaneth only got ONE new model with their new codex.

I would guess that Ogors  get the same treatment: Tyrant, spells, and maybe a piece of a terrain.

Hopefully the new Tyrant isn't included in a $160 box set that immediately sells out though lol.

Sylvaneth only got one but it's a great model and a tantalising glimpse of a future expansion.

Your right people should lower their expectations, GW has clearly, since AOS 2.0 and 8th ed 40k been trying to get the game sorted before releasing tonnes of models. They're sales increased exponentially when 40k was streamlined and reset as the full range was being used as there wasn't many bad options, just different tactics

The old days of a slow cycle of army refresh are over. I'm looking forward to psychic awakening as it's as I've predicted for so long where thryll reach a point where the game is healthy and they can release models alongside supplements and campaigns, big emphasis on the model and lots of visibility.

It's going to be a really exciting 2020 where I think every faction is going to see new models and redone plastics in both systems.  They wont necessarily be released alongside a codex or battletome though any more.

Watch psychic awakening closely as it will give hints to the next big AOS  campaign and releases . Can't wait to see how they expand fyreslayers , ironjawz , deepkin sylvaneth etc

Yeah, so far we've seen the AoS release cycle mirror that of 40K a year earlier. They released a big new edition, then had a year of rapid fire codex releases. We're seeing that same thing unfold for AoS now, so whatever happens next for 40k is a pretty clear indicator of what the future holds for AoS. The big question remains what the period between editions is likely to be, and thus how long stuff will last before they try to update it all again...

I don't disagree necessarily, but I'm not sure this is a one to one comparison, Sylvaneth already had an AoS 1.0 battletome and new models specifically for AoS that came with it on their initial release.  Whilst Ogors do have the BCR battletome (which was the next released battletome after Sylvaneth, if I recall) a lot of their range has never had a 'proper' AoS rules release outside of the very first sets of warscrolls, and all of their models predate AoS!

Lower your expectations as appropriate, but I would not be surprised to see at least a little more than the basic spells and terrain 2.0 update for the large lads.

New rumour engine pic, whilst some kind of piratical goblin airship would obviously be amazing it actually looks a little neat for a destruction model.

Random thought, what if it's part of a kind of early modern semaphore system, like the balls & flags one the French army used in the late 1700s. It would be a great non-weird, non magical terrain piece for a Cities of Sigmar army.

Exactly the kind of thing the Ironweld Arsenal would develop and an army that is supposed to be (or at least is a direct descendent of an army that is supposed to be) much more of a realistic rank & file army would use.

To be honest I'd put the chance of that being right at around 0.01% but I'm going with that or a rickety windmill terrain piece that comes with a fat Ogor Knight astride a fat donko and a halfling Sancho Panza.

Lookout Gnoblar maybe? I think we can all agree that it's definitely destruction related.

True, though Ogors have a lot more plastic models to pull from than Sylvaneth did pre-AOS.

Sylvaneth were born from half of a codex (a small codex at that). I believe that's one of the reasons that super old models like Dryads and Branchwraiths are still around.  They were needed to fill out a character-heavy codex.

Do you think they will be releasing models for recent codexes that soon? I doubt we will see models for ANY of the codexes released this year for quite some time (outside of specialist games shared units).

Depends on what you consider soon but maybe in a year or two. I've noticed that the big reasons to buy 2.0 battletomes aside from lore and art is allegiance abilities and artifacts/command traits as opposed to the actual warscrolls. It would be pretty easy to slot in a new character or even unit into existing 2.0 battletomes thanks to this and keywords. I'm thinking after the 2.0 battletome roll out is done we'll see start seeing model releases independent of battletome releases fairly often.

Ogors have the opposite problem of Sylvaneth, their entire list of Heroes (Barring the BCR Mounted Behemoths) are Finecast, and some of them are very dated or made the transition to Finecast very poorly.  The Butcher for example is a vital cornerstone HQ choice for Gutbusters but the model is so bad and expensive that basically no one uses it in favor of cobbling together their own from leftover plastic bits. Same for the Tyrant, to a lesser extent.

If GW wants to capitalize on the release of Mawtribes with actual model sales, they'd be foolish to miss the opportunity of adding 1-2 more hero models alongside the Tyrant.

That's the thing, it really would be a relatively easy win. Plastic tyrant (confirmed), plastic hunter with frost sabres (rumoured, for Beastgrave), and a plastic butcher would basically sort out the joint ogre range to a decent, if not perfect level. Ten plastic kits without a much redundancy, I can see that being pretty attractive in GW's eyes. Certainly it would be better rounded than even some new factions.

Firebelly/maneaters are flavourful but as an extra wizard and elite infantry unit they have less of a unique roll, so could stay as finecast mercenaries. Yhetees and gorgers could really do with new plastics as well and I'd be sad to see them go but I can easily see a scenario where in GW's eyes they're less 'core' to the identity of the ogres and  can be chucked.

If they want to raise sales of Ogres they just have to put them into a box with the new shiny models 😂

I didn’t read anywhere but if someone saw the review of the new Warcry book there are 3 new factions mentioned: Everchosen, Beasts of Chaos and Stormcast Warrior Chamber. Everchosen in particular is interesting as they don’t have literally any model that would match a skirmish game? Unless the Slaves end up under Everchosen umbrella, that is even weirder...

It's this, the full roster is in the book. You get a varanguard model as the leader, costs more than any of the monsters, IIRC. The rest of the list is mostly chaos warriors.

I saw it but still thought there’s chance for an expansion as the other two are not in the book if I’m not wrong. They could still have two warband card packs only, but seems a quite low number...

A combined Everchosen and Slaves book with the power increases focused on allegiance would be brilliant.

If they focus on Scroll changes it will just lead to god books being run to min max.

We already said goodbye to that.

Even the Warqueen is moved to the warcry mercenaries. And slaves don't even have a warband at all. This doesn't scream "bright future" to me

All the Warcry Warbands have Slaves to Darkness rules on the GW store under the rules tab on the respective pages. Slaves gained 8 new warparties of models through Warcry (6 released 2 upcoming). They even have a new key-word "cultist" which, considering all the warbands don't have a "mark of chaos" rule on the warscroll, I think is going to work with a future Battltome release so that instead of GW repeating the "Mark of Chaos" rule on every warscroll, they instead have a cultist keyword that works to a similar effect with allegiance abilities
