Equipment for Kairics and Tzaangors

So I'm planning making a Tzeentch army, but the equipment options for my battleline, Tzaangors and Kairic Acolytes are a bit overwhelming. Should I always take all of the specials? Prioritize one weapon or another, etc? (KO is so much simpler) And if they're holding something can they still attack?

Here's a planned list for my 1k. If I could get some insight it'd be great. And models marked with * I'd like to know what, if any, attacks they get. Thanks!

Kairic Acolytes unit (20 models)

Adept with Glaive

5 Glaives

2 Vulcharc*

2 Scrolls*

10 Shields

Tzaangors unit (10 models)

Twistbray with Greatblade

3 Greatblades

Iconbearer*

Brayhorn*

2 Mutants (twin blades by default?)

2 Shields

All four "specialists" you mention here are still able to use their respective weapons. The reason for this is that per the corresponding warscrolls, they are equipped with the "special gear" in addition to everything else. If their "special gear" would replace their weapons, the warscroll would say so.

Regarding your strategical questions you should transfer them in the Disciples of Tzeentch forum part.

I hope I could help.

This is more a tactical question over a rules question. You should post this in the Tzeentch thread in Chaos sub forum. Get a lot more help over there.

I think we agree that only rules questions belong in this specific forum. And a part of @DavionStar´s request was exactly that. So why should we not answer them?

Sorry if I had put this in the wrong area. I suppose it is a bit of both rules and tactics so I wasn't sure.

At any rate, it seems clear that, for example, a Tzaangors with a Brayhorn can't carry a Greatblade. But then both paired blades and blade with shield are standard. So my Breyhorn model could go either shield or paired blades?

Ah. So, for example in my Tzaangor unit, let's say I pick shields. My Brayhorn and iconbearer are treated as if they have shields. But I can't pick any other individual model and say they get paired blades instead. They get shields cause that's the choice for the unit. ...other than the Mutants who get paired blades by default I think. (so confusing)

And I'd assume this rule also applies to the Acolytes. If I pick shields, even the birb and scroll carrying ones get shields?

Yes. But they do have to be all one or the other in a unit. You cannot mix and match between those outside of the options that say X out of Y can carry ABC.

Tzaangors can specifically mix and match equipment. The optimum set up for 30 Tzaangors is:

-12 Great Blades (including command models)
-6 Mutatants w/paired blades
-11 paired blades
-1 Shield

The shield will give the entire unit a 6+ save after save.

Ok so, looking at the rules in the app that looks right. You only need one shielded model to gain the extra save. For Kairic Acolytes though, it's per model. That's what was confusing me earlier on that point. At the very least, for now, I can put together my Tzaangors which I picked up.

I thought Kairic could mix and match? Since it says each unit fights with a variety of weapons and then goes on to say 'some of the acolytes are armed with' instead of 'some units' or just 'some'. And the fact that the box comes with like only 2 paired weapons at most (I really dislike the box forcing shields on everything, especially glaives who can't actually take shields. Gets confusing)

EDIT: They also have the exact same wording for mixing equipment that tzaangors do.

(Finally getting back to this)

Working with what we've got here I think I'll use the same lists as above except giving only one shield to the Tzaangors. The Kairics are squishy and are meant to be a big meat shield (as close to one as Tzeentch followers can get anyway) with the birbgoats being a bit more killy. So I think this'll work out. And if I ****** up the rules, well, I'll just get another box of Tzaangors if I have to.
