Strength in Numbers was the battleshock buff (+1 to bravery) are you thinking of Overwhelming Mass (+1 hit / wound) ? Hopefully this stays the same

I am afraid it won't. The first article on the new book said (at the bottom) there would be three factionwide battle traits. So that would be those three from the second article.

I hadn't spotted that, and I think you're right. No more +1 hit and wound, and I was about to write off clanrats as useless until I did the math

Under their current rules 40 clanrats hit and wound on a 3, but let's say only 20 are in range (2 ranks of 10), that's around 9 save rolls. Under the new rules all 40 of those clanrats can attack with 4/4 which is actually 10 save rolls. When you add AllOut Attack that goes up to 13, and with a Warbringer that's 18. Take a clawlord and your 40 clanrats are dishing out 36 damage (albeit at 0 rend)

Looks like we're back to being a horde army 😁😁

Edit: one small fly in the ointment is that we now require more CP than before, and can only choose 1 unit to focus our CP on.

Depends on how you had your clanrats built. All of mine have speers so I got most into melee already even in larger blocks.

Also you can only use allout attack once per phase. Do you really spend that on clanrats? Plus the old rule could benefit more than one unit.

Frankly I don't see this as a significant boost on larger units. I think I would use clanrats as min-units to have more waves and be able to screen more rounds (especially now that we seem to lose a number of ways to deal with battleshock).

I would probably go for 2x60 clanrats a priest with curse and the rest of the army consisting of min. Size giant rats and clanrats

This is where I was going too. Add in a bell with Emerald Lifeswarm and watch those rats chomp through anything 😁

Mine as well. I started my Skaven army with a pure Pestilens list in 2017 when staffs still gave extra attacks being able to attack from the third row.

We will see. I am expecting weapon profiles to get streamlined. And the way GW operates lately I would expect some little used models to be crucial in the new book so we all buy new stuff.

I'll be honest, the more of the new tome rules I see, the more I think GW hates the Skaven.

Yes, clanrats look a little better. But the Stormvermin have had a small nerf by losing the Overwhelming Mass, and going up in points. Plague Monks may now be playable in units of 20 though, even if they are still a glass cannon

I'm off to my FLGS later to pre-order the book, warscroll cards and GHB anyway, just crossing my fingers there's some love for the rat folk in the book 🤞

The realm rules for Gallet also include two new core battalions. Expert Conquerors are more accomplished at holding objectives than most, while Bounty Hunters specialise in gutting opposing armies – they deal extra Damage in melee when targeting the enemy’s GALLETIAN VETERANS

Not loving the idea of enemies having units that output extra damage against our battlelines. Battlelines that we’re almost certain going to have to take in larger units to get any bonuses. Reaaaallly hoping that it’s not a flat +1 damage, and more of a “6 to wound causes an extra damage, or a mortal”

Well I mean it does sound interesting.

Depending how the doom flayer will work in the new book, I could see this being a pretty interesting buff.

Could be a nice option for a trio of rattling guns too 😁

Well, I’m not certain how it will work.

if it is restricted towards combat only, I guess doom flayer might be the better option
