Warcry is Killteam/Mordheim... ?

Recommended Posts

I am really curious to see how they do the idoneth warband. Also, I kinda want to know how the game is actually played after all this hype!

You'll just be able to use Thralls/Reavers in the game most likely. I highly doubt all 9 non Chaos factions will be getting their own new models.

GW already said it : Warcry is a new, distinct IP, focusing on the diversity of Chaos warbands and strange creatures.

The 8-9 non-chaos warbands are indeed probably only rules, but we could maybe see one (1) Order Warcry-designed gang, for exemple for Devoted Of Sigmar (notably because the Azyrite symbol on the Warcy poster (with all the 14-15 logo) is kinda new, never used on Stormcast boxes, Firestorm roster, etc.).

Yea, I was thinking that too. I want to know what weapons will be given and the like, like if each weird weapon the thralls have will have their own profile.

And, thinking how there are Ogers are in the iron golems warband, I was thinking maybe akhelians will be included in there, considering how eel knights could be oger sized

The Warcry bands we've seen do seem to include some larger models, like the Ogre, or the lion-thing, and some of the infantry models look a bit more elite or leader-ish, IMO.

For Deepkin, I could see them using a base of Thralls and Reavers, maybe one Eel, and 1-2 Isharaan Heroes.

I don't think they're planing on any cavalry in warcry imo so my guess is they would stick to namarti and Isharaan heroes unless they're coming out with an on foot akhelian unit/hero and some crabs or other sea creature unit at some point in the future. But who knows, if they don't it does severely limit some factions but they'll still be playable.

Indeed, the Chaos Ogor and the Lion-goat are all on 40mm base - that's the biggest from the kit for the warbands (with the Chaos chiken elongated bases, which are smaller than the Eels ones IIRC).

One wish for warcry: make Lotan, and Warden of the Soul Ledgers, a good investment!

I was indeed wondering if the non-chaos Warbands would get access to "heroes-level" models, because without them, you only have Namarti Thralls and Namarti Thralls Icon Bearer (idem for Reavers) for Idoneth...

The Iron Golem and Untamed Beasts gangs do look like normal infantry sized units, with standard bearer or "specialist", and a chieftain / sergeant style leader (no "big heroes").

If they are allowing heroes and only restricting cavalry then I think he'll be a good investment for them, depending on how they deal with bravery a buff to that and rerolls to hit for all namarti within a certain range seems pretty good to me. He's not that great in AoS proper (mostly because eels are the way to go I think) but I think there might be a place for him in Warcry.

I think We may sea more for the weekender, but I don't know about the idoneth being part of it. Maybe we will see an overview of the game and maybe not. Regardless, I think I'm going to put those beast guys together first. I guess every army I play is coming from Ghur!

I'm expecting an entirely new gaming system (like kill team/necromunda compared to 40k rather than skirmish to aos) so I would be surprised if any of the existing rules port directly over

Yeah honestly I'm kinda hoping they do that as well, I mean the easier option is to just port the warscrolls over as is but then why bring in some of the devs for Warhammer Underworlds or Black Stone Fortress unless there's going to be a complete overhaul of rules right.

My wild guess is that like with KT/40K they’ll roughly keep the profiles of units similar, so you can easily skip from Warcry to AoS with some expectation they will work in the same way BUT with some new mechanics like KT Flesh Wounds so 1W models hang around a bit longer, the initiative section from Blackstone Fortress, and some mechanic to make melee combat more involved, whether that’s special abilities or who knows maybe even cards that you can use to boost/counter attacks.

Personally I’d love it if you could do special actions to deliver a coup de grace against prone/unconscious/wounded enemies. It would be very chaotic to get to declare a ‘DECAPITATION’, ‘THROAT BITE’ or ‘REACH INTO THEIR PULPY FLESH AND PULL THEIR STILL BEATING HEART OUT WITH YOUR MAILED FIST WHILST CHANTING KALI MA SHAKTI DE’ action against your opponent’s injured fighters.

Just so over campaigns you can keep a tally of how many skulls you’ve taken, or whatever grisly finishing move you prefer, and build up that characters story (and perhaps advance their stats in a campaign).

I also suspect HEROES & especially WIZARDS will be thin on the ground to start with. But we’ll see...

Great points @JPjr . I’ve only played a couple of games of AoS skirmish but it felt pretty dull to me. I’m hoping they have spectacular actions, stuff like push back, diving charge etc. I want to decapitate an ennemy then have my guy pushed off a ledge by some low level warrior with a lucky streak, stuff like that instead of I roll 4+, then I roll 4+, then you roll 4+...

Between this:

the Splintered Fang show off new aspects of Chaos  there’s even an aelf amongst them!'

And this:

I'm sold!

It was specified in the Q&A that the non-chaos factions will just be rules for existing models to start with, but ‘who knows what the future holds for them’.

Pretty sad there wasn't any discussion on how the game will be played. Is it basically AoS mordheim like so many want? Can we build our dudes and not be limited to named characters? Do these guys have more weapon options? Will an axe perform different than a sword in game?

I have so so many questions.

They said all that will come out before the game is released.

I am really impressed with all of the new war bands. We know that most of the Mortal Realms are under the control of Chaos and with these models you kind of get the true post apocalyptic setting as it is realised in the background. Very hard for me to choose a favourite but these new snake ones might be it.

I've gone from mildly interested in Warcry to quite excited to see what is in store.

I've got to say so far this new snake warband is my favourite, I really like the hoplite look with the scaled clothing and the aelf looks great, the dude with the snake I'm not too sure about but I imagine I'd like it a lot better if I was looking at it irl. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the other warbands are going to be like and finding out what realm they're from, really hope we see the warband with the eye icon next since I have no idea what the theme behind them could be.

But I want it nooooooow....

also, we have seen a lot of weapon choices for the iron golems now, from the big weapon tenderizers to the weapons the grunts use, but I'm really wondering about the other two war bands now. Will there be more weapons, or will they be boned?

Also, I'm really curious to see what an STD army using these guys will look like. Heavens above the hype train is getting excessive

At least we know it's not "named characters" because of the different weapons options !

I think StD will be more "hordes of Darkoath" focused, because all those Warcry warbands are clearly Skirmish-size designed, with different weapons, profiles, monsters, leaders in the same very small unit (7-10 guys apparently) - IMO it would be quite difficult to play with so many different profiles in one small infantry unit (versus, say, Stormcast, with 5 guy, 1 big weapon and 1 leader punkt schuss).

well the new keeper of secrets has weapon options so that doesn't nessarily throw that potential out the window. I'd rather they not be though.
