Doing a quick comparision 10 points more Madcap can use Madcap artefacts Both have the same stats Both have mediocre spells Both get access to Moonclan Lore Both can use a Mushroom once per game for a second spell Fungoid Mushroom doesn't do d3 mortals to it on a double Fungoid has a 4++ after save Fungoid has a 4+ to gain a cp each turn Fungoid has a better set of melee attacks So for 10 points you get a massive amount of benefits at the cost of 1 negative. You will almost never cast Night Shroud anyway because the Lore spells are so good, end result is that if you have the 10 points then use them to upgrade a madcap to a fungoid. I am thinking of : Loonboss on mangler squig, Loonboss on cave squig, fungoid shaman 12 squig herd, 10 hoppers, 10 bounders (maybe 5 and 5). Comes in at 1k exactly. Mollog doesn’t really fit here, but I am in two minds about whether Zarbag’s gits is a bargain for a cheap unit (3 units!) with a wizard and a bit of utility, or just a waste of points. My initial idea was this: Skragrott, The loonking Loonsboss Webspinner shaman on Arachnarok spider 20 shootas 40 stabbas I really love the Arachnarok spider model and I want at least one (if not two) in my next 2k list, but I've seen on the gw site that the big fellow spider is out of stock right now, anyone know how much time it wil take to be available again (I also see that even the DoK chariot is out of stock for at least one month now, maybe even more, and this make me think that for the spider I'll have to wait even more). I honestly think Zarbag doesn't come into use until a 2k army. He is a hefty point sink for a fairly squishy wizard. Maybe look into a second fungoid? (Do the CP abilities stack?) or a couple madcap to spread the magic love around the field. Squig lure and hand of mork would really help with the list.
