Activation of the Feculent Gnarlmaw's Sickness Blossoms trait

Question

The wording on the Feculent Gnarlmaw's warscroll states:

"Sickness Blossoms

At the start of the hero phase, roll a dice for each unit within 3" of any Feculent Gnarlmaws. On a 4+ the unit suffers 1 Mortal Wound. Units with the Nurgle keyword are unaffected by this ability."

I took this to mean that Sickness Blossoms activates at the start of every Hero Phase (mine and the enemy's), since it says the hero phase and not your hero phase. However, when I tried to use it like this in a game against a more experienced friend he said that seemed wrong and a bit overpowered. Can anyone weigh in on this so I know how to use this ability in future games? Does it activate in both hero phases, or just my own?

Yeah it’s activated at the start of each hero phase since it doesn’t specifically call out your hero phase. RAW you are right.

its not really that overpowered since it’s range is 3” unless he’s parking underneath one it shouldn’t be that hard to avoid. Even then best case scenario is dealing 10-12mortals over 5 turns depending on how many units he places in range.
