augmented reality to track your model's achievements

Recommended Posts

Went down a rabbit hole earlier after seeing a twitter exchange between Ex Profundis and Gav Thorpe.  Apparently a guy in England used AR in conjunction with 40k to have a battle display where you could use a digital device to learn more about the models on the display. Things like background, how they have fared in past battles, feats of strength, those sorts of things. I put the video below and the link to the overall website. How cool would it be to have available for your heros/units and then update it after each part of a narrative campaign? Once your models were back on your shelf, you could pull out your phone and see all the things the accomplished! OR, at an event you could go through the hall when armies were displayed for painting, and/or lunch, end of day, and see what models in other armies have done throughout the day. Yea, it'd be a lot of scanning and data entry but I have to believe you could speed up the scanning process by just get 360 degree outlines of the models and not details, but I'm not sure.

It's a nice idea, but you'll be teaching your grandkids how to play wargames before this is possible on the fly on something like a tablet! (Sooner if you're happy to mount a recognition pattern, dedicated computer and 2-3 scanning cameras around your gaming table.)

On a side note, a computer powerful enough to differentiate between two indentikit stormcast minis at a distance would easily be able to compute "closest model"...

fair points all around.

so maybe its a little much to try and implement it at tournaments or with multiple armies. But based off the video, it sure as hell seems like you could do it with your own army as long as you placed them on the display board in the space spot each time.

At which point... Why bother? ?
