Let's get icy! Basing Beastclaw Raiders.

So I'm starting a new Beastclaw Raiders army and I've decided I'd like to push myself when it comes to basing them.

Up until now I've been fairly lazy when it comes to basing my models, especially since Games Workshop released their awesome basing paints. Bit of Stirland Mud, Valhallan Blizzard and some grass tufts, and ta-da, done!

Well seeing as I'll be taking this army to the Age of Sigmar Achievements narrative event at Bad Dice - Blood & Glory event in Derby this November, and there's points on offer for doing some creative basing, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to push myself to try something new.
(There's still one ticket left if anyone fancies joining in the hilarity: https://bloodandglory.baddice.co.uk/store/warhammer-age-of-sigmar-championships-copy/)

With that decided, I started looking around for blogs on doing awesome ice effects, and for all the ones out there, by far the best was MonkeySloth's guide on the Reaper message board:

I decided instead of working with hollow bases I'm going to try just applying straight on top of clear plastic bases, which I managed to order from Sarissa, I've ordered enough for the entire army and a few spares to practice on first.

And after a quick search, I managed to find a UK store that stocks the much talked about Distress Crackle Rock Candy paint.

(Fave Rave Crafts Shop on Amazon UK.)

So now I just need to be patient, and keep building the rest of the army, while I wait for everything to arrive.

I'll be posting more updates once I've done some practice bases.

If there's anyone else out there who's tried this sort of basing style, I'd love to see what you achieved and learn how you did it!

I would use a textured roller and make the bases from either sculpey or greenstuff:

Those will make some very nice looking bases with extremely little effort.  I have some and it is money well spent for the time savings.

I did have a look in GSW, it's normally my first port of call. I decided that my painting wasn't quite up to making the bases look awesome if I used the texture roller. I think, hopefully, part of the beauty of the way I'm going to try and do my bases is that it will require minimal painting skill.
