The gaunt summoner and the balewind

Arkiham

Question

Aos 2 throws up new questions abaout this model.

is he option A

1 model with 4 familiars ? making him a unit with more than 1 model in

or is he option B

1  model with 4 familiars? who call count as 1 model.

this is important as

if he is option A he cant go on the balewind, but as per rules and FAQ he is a hero model within range of himself and therefore gets -1 to hit until the familiars are killed

if he is option b he can go on the balewind with all his familiars.

So there's no reason at all not to take the familiars? They seem to be free with no downside.

So “free” is a misnomer ... the models are only available in the Silver Tower Box set. (Or via trade or the ‘bay.)

And while the other Warscrolls in the Silver Tower warscrolls set were depreciated (Horrors/Kairic Acolytes/Tzaangor/Ogroid Thaumaturge) the Gaunt Summoner And Chaos familiars one was not.

Here’s the direct link to the Silver Tower warscrolls that included the Gaunt Summoner and Chaos Familiars:

And here is the current errata for those warscrolls from the Warhammer Community Site from July 2018:

Sorry for the blurry photo it's from a Google search.

Says he is a single model and at the bottom of the description "He is accompanied by a quartet of Chaos Familiars".

Only mention of unit size is the single model, and almost like the familiars are tokens that follow him rather than extra models in a unit.

Well yeah but rules-wise they're free and don't seem to have any downside. Rules-wise there seems to be zero reason to take a Gaunt Summoner without the familiars, he's no cheaper.

Glad I have Silver Tower!

The warscroll is now on the App for a Gaunt Summoner with Familiars.

It states the gaunt summoner is a single model. The familiars are placed within 1” of the summoner whenever he moves or is set up.

The rules for the balewind are that the combination of wizard and balewind is treated as a single model.

Therefore I would say that the familiars do not go on the balewind. Instead they are placed within 1” of ’combined model’ once the Summoner has been placed on top.

Absolutely. Rules-wise there isn’t a reason that I can tell that one wouldn’t take the GS and Familiars.
