I am certainly not going to be racist when converting for CoS. Since I don't know of any ability targeting Aelf or Human, I can freely change those about, but it does matter whether the unit is plated or barechested.

It's a matter of how much confusion is avoided on the tabletop for players and nothing to do with racism, which incidentally is a scourge of reality and not a fantasy setting.  Otherwise, Duarden would not be able to hate Grots, for example and so on.

Sorry, I did not mean to be beligerent.

I have human archers, for instance, and they don't exist anymore. I could throw them all away, or, and that is what I'll do, I can say they are elven archers (which do still exist) and continue to use them.

As long as the function of the unit is clear so there will not be confusion (and of course height and base sizes match), I'm confident that my opponent will not mind.

I don't think it's a matter of actual racism.  Rather, I just see the races as being mostly interchangeable in CoS since they all live together in the same place.  What's to prevent an aelf from joining a freeguild company and being a greatswordsman?

Absolutely nothing.  Mixing the races in a single unit is a great idea and one I have been considering myself since the tome was announced (or at least since the idea was first mooted).  My only worry is the unit not been obviously one thing or another, which is why I'm rather glad they are winnowing out similar types of unit (though it will be sad for my figures that become obsolete).

If there is only one type of two-handed sword, then mixing in, say, Swordmasters with Greatswords could work quite easily as there would be no Swordmaster warscroll for them to be confused with.  If there is also a warscroll for two-handed axes, however, then mixing axes and swords in the same unit might lead to confusion, especially if you have both types of unit on the field at the same time.

This is why I am waiting for the book before making any decisions, as it's impossible to do so without that information.  It's likely, though, that the units will continue to be aligned according to race as they have been up to now, which will mean that using one one race to represent another will ultimately depend on being comfortable with it yourself from an aesthetics perspective and the acceptance of those you play with.  Personally,  I would prefer to keep to the warscroll description, but adding one or two Aelves and Duardin into a Free peoples unit, for example, for added flavour would be great.  I would be pretty relaxed about it, however, if my opponent wanted to field Aelves to represent a Free Peoples unit. assuming they represented the other main criteria of the unit fairly closely.  I enjoy the visual aspect of playing the game as much as the game itself, and therefore I feel that this ought to be given careful consideration, especially as the visual panorama is being provided by two (or more) players and the game will be more fun if it appeals to both (or all).

When AOS started, I was a dark Elf player ( and Orcs and Goblins ).  I loved the fact that I could now mix all the different types of Aelves together.  I now have a nice mix of Aelves, especially Wanderers which has built into an army in its own right.  Before Allegiance abilities were a thing, it made very little difference. The Cities tome is getting me excited for the very same reason.  I may have to shelve some models (possibly quite a lot). but it will open up two other races for me to start collecting without having to commit to making whole armies out of each one.

It's fine, I know it's  frustrating, especially as we are left dangling until the book actually comes out.  It took me a long time to actually paint many of my models, as once I've painted 10 of something I have to wait a while before I can bring myself to paint the next 10.   I have two Spire of Dawn sets that have been waiting for a Battletome that is unlikely (never say never) to appear.  I have painted 5 Reavers out of one of them, but still hoping I can use some of the others in some way.  It appears my Dragonblades, among others, are doomed for the shelf.  Yet, I am still looking forward to getting the Cities tome.  I have no issue with representing units with non standard models, so long as they are fairly representing that unit visually.  I am more relaxed about facing it than I am about doing it, which is purely down to my own self-imposed requirements about how my army looks.

I am going to go with the flow.  I enjoy this hobby and I would rather go with it than lose the enjoyment.  There's enough stress in the real world.  I hobby in part to get away from it.

I think using the reaves as dark riders, and dragonblades as cold one knights should work quite well. This distinguishes between light and heavy cav.

I actually sort of grinded to a halt in building and painting. Really need to start again. I have one dwarf, I will either make that a more dwarfy cogsmith with bits of my gunmasters, or make it one of my Guard. He's going to be in the army either way. I have two other dubious ones, a guard with a bull head (from the Knights of the Realm helmet ornaments) and an archer with a deer head. I thought of these angering the beast wizard that lurks about them.

Over the last 1 and a half years I have collected quite a lot of Wanderers - faintly hoping they would get an update.

However I have now settled on the Idea to frame the Army as some sort of "Rangers of the Living City" type of theme. There is already lots of different greens on them, in part due to the fact that I liked it and I wanted to have visual connection to Alarielle and Life etc... :D
They have ranged Specialists (Sisters (and Brothers) of the Watch) and Melee Specialists (Wildwood Rangers) What bugs me though is that there is no Elven Hero on foot with a BOW in the CoS Tome .... I mean .... come on .... And my Glade Guard will be joining them as Rookies ^^
My only concern is wether Sisters of the Watch will be associated with Wanderers or if they get folded into something else... (somewhere I read that Shadow Warriors would be rolled in with Phoenix Temple)

Reading all your posts got me thinking - If I would have started AoS now - I would totally collect mixed Human/Aelf/Dwarves
In terms of the Races and representing some Unit as another: I am intrigued on running Glade Guard  as Freeguild Crossbowmen.

I honestly don't get what GW marketing team is doing with the cities. This thread is basically full of people saying variations of 'I would buy more now, but I don't know what the army allows yet so I'll wait'. I mean, if they gave the players *something* to build upon, we'd be giving them money already.  I'm not saying that we here make for any reasonable chunk of client base, but I think we can safely assume that more people would be buying things if they knew what things are good to be bought :D

I'm not talking about full unit list or anything, just things like 'every city will be able to take scourge privateer units' or, even more optimally: 'here's the list of City subfactions' because we're not even certain of some of them (shadowblades, mostly), are even *in* the book.

If the book is so close, how hard can it be to put together soe articles spoiling minor details? As they do with basically any other book?

Some of my projects are paused too at the moment because I'm waiting for the new battletome.

The one thing that makes me sad is that GW has basicly killed the "bow profile" 1 Attack, 4+ to Hit, 4+ to wound, no Rend. It was a profile that more or less on all three types (infantry, cavalry, chariots). At the moment we only have the worse looking profile Repeater Crossbows 2 Attacks, 5+ to Hit, 4+ to Wound, no Rend, the Handgun variants, 1 Attack, 5+ to Hit, 3+ to wound, -1 Rend (not on chariots) or the elite archers that hit on 3+ but only can be infantry.

With the hero, I'm hoping they will have artifacts that will let you give them a bow or something

Well today was a good day.  I found both the Anvilgard and Tempest's Eye sets on line for about 150 USD a piece on Noble Knight Games!  They were a pretty good value for me since the Scourge Privateers and Dwarves in those sets alone more than make up the cost and the Stormcasts are just a little bonus.  Now I just need some regular humans and my cities will be ready to go!

The thing is, I'm still spending money on their models just not Cities of Sigmar models.

I am currently playing "the Huntsman and the Beast" Warmmer Total War DLC, and it captures that spirit somewhat.

Edited to add, it has odd heroes, a dwarven engineer, wood elven huntress, bretonnian noble and imperial witch hunter for which you can do missions and help you in your quest, mostly against lizardmen. They also fight in your army or do missions for you.

I paid 150 euro for an old collection that would send me over 5k points.

2 battalions of the Empire (20*guard, 10 crossbows, Cannon, 8 empire knights)

2 extra units guard

Demis

Luminarch

General

Wizards

Volley gun

2 citadel woods

A couple of terain pieces I don't recognise

Gaming table

This was exactly what he asked for it, but it does feel like I ripped him off. He is moving, so just wanted it gone.

Yeah, that's a total rip off. But if that's what the guys wanted for it then ... It's just a very good deal for you ;)

He also got a few other things, but yeah, I came out ahead in that exchange. Now for CoS to see what I actually have...

He said 150 for a few things less, and then found the Luminarch and Woods and tossed them in.

I would like to see an all Duardin list is possible. I have plans for mixed but I like my bearded laddies

Gotrek - 520pts

Warden King - 100pts

Runelord - 80pts

Cogsmith - 100pts

30x Ironbreakers - 360pts

10x Hammerers - 140 pts

10x Irondrakes - 180pts

2x Steam Tanks - 480pts

1,960pts total -- so wiggle room to play around with the total numbers.

This seems like a doable, all Duardin CoS list. We'll see once the Tome hits.
