I'm in the same boat as you and went with something else entirely: Thundrik's Profiteers. 5 unique models for 20€ is a good value. Good in the sense that I'm getting a feel for the KO minis as well as being able to paint more interesting models than range minis.

But tbh, I'm a collector first and TT gamer second so my priorities are probably different.

Thundrik's Profiteers are cheaper than a Khemist, and include a Khemist. Also from the era of Underworlds when their models were much better value.

I have two.

Yes, that was another reason for the decision.

It was actually quite difficult tracking a box down because it was "sold out online" on GW's site, our local GW store doesn't do pick ups and the LGS didn't respond to my approximately 44536 calls. And online they were sold out everywhere except in places where the shipping cost would've negated the good value.

Then today my LGS called back and voila he still has a box! 5 minutes later I check GWs site for other stuff and see that they're back available online as well. Despite GW stating that things with the "sold out online" tag don't go back in stock willy nilly. Weird...

I had not seen it was "sold out online!".

I see lots of them coming around on the minipainting reddit, I think they sell really well, so stopping their production would be weird (except, of course, it pushes people to the regular overpriced Khemist and the newer more expensive Underworld sets)..

Just getting into KO. Was curious of the best rout to go. Dont have qny models yet and was wondering in the new battleforce box or a start collecting box would be best for the start.

You can’t really go wrong with a start collecting box,  thunderers & gunhaulers are useful in most lists and a good starting point for the escort wing battalion.

I started KO fairly recently. I picked up aether war (found it reasonably priced on eBay), a start collecting box and Thundriks profiteers (mainly for a cheap alt Khemist). That’s a roughly 1K balloon boy list right there. Picked that up for around £100.

My wife bought me a Frigate and I got the Bugman mini to count as something (possibly admiral?). Next steps for me will be Ironclad, more thuderers and maybe arkanauts. I’ve not fully worked out what I want for 2k.

I'd say 30 arkanauts as just a core you can reliably have to build around and are fairly future proof. It's not a hard investment to make.

after that, well, the ironclad has always featured in competitive KO metas, and is sort of the army centerpiece model.

From there, uh... you'll need heroes. You can skip the admiral and footdrinmaster (though if you grab a start collecting you get him too) in the current meta, but the other three characters are all useful in their own way.

From there you either build to balloons or thunderers. Even if you go thunderers, I'd still suggest 6 balloon guys, they'll be your screen when your ship jumps. Now the issue here is that this is not future proof. What's goodd to equip your balloon guys with is up to change edition to edition, so I can't really help you here. I own like 28 riggers myself though. So... yeah, I like the balloon guys. Thunderers I would magnetize because their best built doesn't just change on editions, but changes on context of the list you are playing them in.

with this settled, gunhaulers are good point fillers.

Frigates are probably the weakest choice (outside characters), but that could always change.

A new hero for KO comes from Warhammer Quest: Cursed City: Dagnai Holdenstock!
DAGNAI_HOLDENSTOCK-675x1024.png
Bio from the Cursed City web:
The Trade-Commodore is known as a veteran entrepreneur with a knack for creative interpretation of the Kharadron Code. Seeing Ulfenkarn as a potential treasure trove, he searches the streets for the riches he so desperately desires.

It seems that Cursed City has a Booklet of warscrolls (see spoiler tag: Warscroll Book), I hope that they are fun to play (no need to  have competitive stats).

Sounds like a Barak Mhonar or Barak Urbaz type of shifty character which is great because we definitely need more KO characters that aren't just from Barak Nar. I love the title Trade-Commodore. In the stream they mention that the heroes use Holdenstock's ship to traverse to the Cursed City. Doubt this means he'll have a unique ship profile and model. Looking at his character design and the stats of existing WHQ characters like the Doomseeker, he'll likely be a souped up Arkanaut with good stats at best.

The head of an arkanaut company is technically a ship captain

I love his title too! I'm afraid that he will not have any  Admiral, Endrinmaster, Navigator nor Aetherkhemist keyword. Hope to be wrong, but it seems that we are going to rely on subfaccions and realm artefacts to give him a bit of customization.

Why would you think you can customize him? He is probalby a unique character, no?

Ally in some gyro copters and blast them with steam guns. They're ridiculously efficient at clearing hordes. And they fit thematically rather well.

Groups of three with steam delete a unit entirely. Thryng can have them as part of the armyI also think the Gyrocopters, together with the Epic Squats are the inspiration for Kharadron.

Kia ora!

Looking for some advice/feedback on my 2k Mhornar list.

I don't have a third box of Arkanauts yet, which is why I am running Endrinriggers as battleline. I realise that this doesn't allow me to utilize the Mhornar pre-game move - but I don't really enjoy dropping a spell on my opponent at the top of Turn 1 anyway.

I could split the Arkanauts up into two 10 man units, but I think I would rather keep drops low.

Maybe a bit offtopic but... Is there any discord server for KO?

Yes. There is one named The Skyport that I'm aware of. Maybe someone could pass the link (I'm at work now).

Sounds tasty! Let us know how good it is on the table, and good luck!

I've got Thundriks Profiteers and the Barak-Nar Skyfleet Battleforce box. If I use the Aether-Khemist from the Profiteers warband, that puts me at just about 1000 points. I'm wondering what to get next. My LGS has a Endrinmaster with Dirigible Suit in stock, so I'm thinking of picking him up. As for objective holders, it's really hard to stomach buying 10 Arkanauts for $60 Canadian, when 20 Mortek Guard are going for $70. What's the deal?

Arkanauts are really good, but with our Battleforce and the Balloon endrinmaster, you already have a legal army to play. Maybe  build lists around that and see if you like how they play.

SC and Warcry KO box have 5 thunderers and they are a good excuses to buy an Ironclad (I would go with 10). That makes a 2000 points list that can be played as Grundstock Escort Wing with 3 gunhaulers, a flying gunplatform and a lot of baloon boyz. If you want to continue with Kharadron, you can finish an Iron Sky Command with one box of Arkanaut Company.

It's funny you mention that. I stopped by my LGS yesterday morning and found a Warcry KO box covered in dust, so I picked that up. I'm thinking the SC box and Iron Clad are probably the way I'll go next. Thanks for the tips!
