  1. I still struggle with taking objectives. If an enemy unit captures one I can't directly take it since I can't get within 9" after flying.

You can work around this by flying high with your murder boat on one side and rushing in with a turbo move Gunhauler who can just rush into objective range.

Shoot everyone off and you have the Gunhauler (or balloon boys alternatively) left controlling the objective.

Not to interrupt these very interesting tactics discussions, but I wanted to ask the admirals here, do you name your ships?

Ships are so central to our faction and real life history is full of famous names (the Victory, Bismarck, Constitution, etc.). So it would be only fitting to name our Skyvessels.

I named all of my ships so far.

The flagship of my fleet, the “BLACK DEATH
My two frigates “DEBTORS RUIN” and “BRINGER OF PROFIT II
Plus my three Gunhaulers “INVISIBLE HAND”, “AETHER WOLF” and “IRON ACCOUNTANT

Am I the only one? What did you name your ships?

Mine still needs to earn one. Before the new book my frigate was called the ‘gargant feller’... in 3 games the cannon only hit a gargant... twice. 😂

I have an Ironclad named Kolgrund ("Black Hammer" in Khazalid), three frigates, named Drek ("Enterprise), Zulbak ("Iron Fist") and Miluzdron (" Thousand Thunders"), and three Gunhaulers, Karin ("Shield) , Krozaki ("Crazy Crow") and Uzkul ("Death").

I’ve called all my ships “The Barag (something),

my Ironclad is the Barag Azamar (The Eternal).

my frigate is called Barag NuDron (Very roughly translates to “Thunder Child)

and my gunhauler is called Barag Akrak Dar (lucky gambit)

I’m planning to call my next two gunhaulers Barag Kol Izril (Black Pearl) and the Barag Garaz (Fearless)

For extra nerd points I’ve converted the names into runes (using an old dwarf army book) and painted them in shaky freehand on the side of my completed ships.

The frigate isn’t pictured- it was the first one I did and I instead tried to make a name plate for it, but lost it.

By the way, is there a consensus about the loadout for Thunderers?

Let's say you want to mount 10+ in an ironclad, what is the best setup? regular toys or spechul shootaz?

I had a game today. I used 10 Thunderers in an Ironclad. I was pretty happy with the all rifles loadout. Good range compared to Arkanaut pistols and some of the special weapons.

All rifles is mathematically probably the way to go. The thing is that we throw waaaay too small amounts of dice to approach a sum where average statistics would become regular results. This results in damage spikes and things like rolling double 1s into double 1s again. So in the end the most realistic advice I can give is: Take what you want and keep the ranges in mind.

About the naming your ships thing:

My Ironclad will probably be called the Skyfather

And my Gunhaulers will be the Prospector's Fortune and the  Trollhammer.

I’m a fan of aether cannons on thunderers.

The carbines on both the frigate and ironclad are 12” so I’m usually dropping within that anyway.

Plus I’m leaning into our single shot high damage weapons. I feel like the more drill cannons and cannons I can get into a list, the less swingy I’ll be on my 4+ to hits just by adding volume of rolls.

I am rooting for specialed out guys, as I am planning for them to be in a collapsible in a gunhauler, supporting a sky warden charge, so the don't need range because the enemy has rather more pressing matters far closer to them, and even the shorter range won't matter. (unless wardens fail their charge roll, then it's a they all die together). In the end, probably personal preference and the way you play.

Edit: Names are a cool idea, and I am totally naming my ships.

Re: ship names, I may have named all my heroes too but my Ironclad is called Groz Wulthrung which means Big Payment (spoiler: it pays with explosives).

Have also been thinking about an Urbaz ‘Khemist Supreme’ double buffing a unit of 20 ArCo and 10 Thunderers but also putting a Burning Head (in a bottle) in the middle for reroll 1s to hit on the two units as well. I’ve tried to play it out but it’s too complex for my brain. Am I wasting my time with this?

I think your not getting a lot of mileage out of your khemist double buff only buffing 10 thunderers and 20 arkos.

Try 20 thunderers with rifles  and 12 endrinriggers with volley guns and drill cannons.

If you are giving up the zilfin or urbaz benefits you really need to lean into what are trying to accomplish with the list.

Anyone tryed using a Ironclad in less than 2k lists? I'm planning to get a Frigate/Ironclad next month but I'm not sure which one would be better. I'm still deciding my final list, the Ironclad looks powerful, but around here we never play more then 1500 points game and at that range the Ironclad is even more expensive pointwise (1/3 of the army!)...

I could see an ironclad at 1500. I’d just put arkos in it maybe instead of thunderers. Actually I’d still put thunderers in there probably lol but I’m not sold on the board presence over more guns philosophies yet

Loondrinmaster

admiral

endrinmaster

ironclad

arkos

arkos

endrinriggers x 6

Gunhauler

ironclad with heros and 20 arkos can actually do a little work in melee, if you double tap the repel boarders command ability from the admiral.  In this settup you’d perhaps want the skyhook because you can only use that command ability in your turn.

If that’s to many eggs in your basket you could swap out your admiral and endrinmaster for a second gunhauler and third arkos but they’re walking and your down to 1 hero.

1 x Grundstok Gunhauler (150)
3 x Endrinriggers (100)
5 x Grundstok Thunderers (120)

This is correct. Gws own faq shows that a set up is never a retreat. All the wording does is shows that you can do either if eligibile.....retreat and shoot (and there by stay in three for objective scoring for eg) or ...fly high and still shoot and and charge but you have to be 9 away and can't go near terrain or objectives

Interesting...

Can you tell me in witch FAQ you have read this?

Thanks for the input, posted a list with that combo with those big blocks a few pages back but was looking for something more flexible with the smaller blocks. You confirmed my suspicions though, such a faff to get that placement right with the spell as well.

I think it's in Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Core Rules (Updated 16/12/2019).

Q: Some abilities allow you to remove a unit from the battlefield and set it up again, and say that this ‘counts as their move for the movement phase’ (or words to that effect). Do these units count as having made a move for the purposes of any other rules or abilities?

A: No, it simply restricts them from making a move later on.
