AoS 2 - Nighthaunt Discussion

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I could see them maybe dropping to 80 for 5, because they need to be usable in nighthaunt too, no way could I see them dropping lower than that though.

I'm hoping (based on GW statement about bravery debuffs) that there is a -1 bravery in the LoG battletrait and another -1 as part of the battalion in this case.

Not sure though, there are so many ways to ignore battleshock now that if they actually want the bravey debuffs to mean anything, then they will have to be used in more than just the battleshock phase.

I also very much hope they become battleline in some way in LoG. Even if it says Olynder has to be general. I wanna try out a full bedsheet army.

Well bravery debuffs interact with banshee screams and Harridans regardless of battleshock tests so theres something

That's  a good point. I suppose if the battalion I theorised earlier was to be the one in the LoG, then all the units would benefit from the buff outside of the  battleshock phase. I hope they do a LoG preview soon, do they do previews over the weekend? Or is it just a weekday thing.

Well doesnt Forbidden Power come out tomorrow? Might be hearing about it then.

Come to think about it... was LoG going to be its own book or just a blurb in FP?

Nay, it goes up for pre-order tomorrow, still have an entire week of teasers to get through. Also, I'm pretty sure it is coming inside the forbidden power book.

Ah, well we ought to get a snippet or two on prerelease day.

Honestly I dont see them giving us an entire different spell lineup or artefact list, but perhaps different allegience abilities to go with gravesites.

My bet is a loss of WoT and Spectral Summond in favor of some sort of "wipe an enemy unit; ressurect a friendly unit" and some other attrition or bravery themed abilities reflecting the fact that the "surprise attack" is over and a more traditional "grind" campaign has begun

Nah, I don't see it either. Maybe one battalion (like the other legions get), nighthant spell access, two unique battle traits (same as other legions), access to gravesites and such. Still a decent trade, gravesites alone will be a big change.

I'm looking forward to it, more options is rarely a bad thing.

I'm surprised we haven't had any further info on this today yet- seemed like a big deal for the box and some info on the 'Legion of Grief' would of surely helped pre-orders.

I know it would have helped them get mine

Perhaps something along the lines of Lady O's vanguard, giving harridans/tomb banshees some sort of bonus... like +1 to banshee scream anti bravery roll and Harridan moving to Bravery 7 for their debuff.

+1 to banshee screams would synergize heavily with added bravery debuffs as well

Tbh the fact that it just looks like a LoN buff rather than a NH buff and zero preview info on the new LoG is making me hold off on FP. I've no interest in running a LoN army using ghosts otherwise I'd already be doing it.

I'm more interested in whether or not they'll put a cap/limit on the free army scenery/terrain, as currently my FEC can take their throne and the new penumdralnydhinch engine thingymabob, which seems a bit much.

Also so far pretty much all of the FP stuff has been hinting at just narrative stuff, there's been no matched play info, so is the new LoG even going to be an option for tournaments?

It will be, they responded on facebook about LoG being matched play and stated that it will be. I have preordered, the effect of the terrain is decent and both of my armies (nighthaunt and legion of azgorh) don't have and likely won't have specialised terrain anytime soon.

As I said before, at the very least it will give us more options. I expect that reapers won't be battleline in LoG though, just getting that feeling. Plus (as much as I hate the model and god do a hate that terrible, terrible model) the horrorghast looks like it will allow me to actually use harridans (please make them battleline in LoG, please GW).

I too worry about the terrain flood though, maybe a rule about only being allowed one type of terrain per army

I dislike Nagash and support all plans of overthrowing him, courtesy of some Vampires 😛 I just re-read the description of the Horrorghast and it says "... taking on the appearance of whatever will most terrorize their prey - most often the pitiless gaze of Nagash, The Great Necromancer."

'Most often' definitely allows for something more horrendous, as long as it resembles the model a tad; is what I'll do, since I will not field something that even remotely looks like Nagash.

Just convert a Terrorgheist head. I feel like more people will fear them soon enough with 6's being 6 mortal wounds, re-rolling all failed hits, and attacking twice.

@SleeperAgent

Where are you getting those perks for the terrorgheist from?

The FEC book. Terrorghiest does 6 mortal wounds on unmodified hits of 6. With the mount trait Gruesome Bite you re-roll all failed hits. And Feeding Frenzy lets them attack again.

Thats if its a FEC terrorgheist. If we get access to it we will have the generic GA Death warscroll

The point I was making is Horrorghast takes the form of what things in the mortal realms fear, and players in AOS will fear the FEC Terrorgheist soon enough. So it's head is a good thing to convert into a Horrorghast.

GMG Review Ongoing Live.
For what I could pick up about LEGION OF GRIEF (guy talks fast) :
- Keywords : Deadwalkers, Deathlords, Deathmage, Deathrattle, Nighthaunts
- If one Mortarch is Included, must be Olynder.
- Allegiance Abilities : Gravesites (same as LoN), Deathless Minions (same as LoN), -1 Bravery for our units at 6' range
- Command traits :
      - Become a Wizard / Can cast one more spell
      - Get a CP on 5+ when burn a CP
      - -2 Bravey at 12' range of the general
- Artefacts : hard to pick up, but nothing stellar apparently
- Spell lore :
      - On 5+, 12' : -1 to save rolls for enemy unit
      - Couldn't pick that one
      - On 8+, 12' : -D3 Bravery

Soooooo, basically…
Allegiance ability : -1 Bravery
Command trait : -2 Bravery
Death Banner : -1 Bravery
Horroghast : -2 Bravery
Necromancer with Overwhelming Dread : -1 Bravery
Our spell lore : -D3 Bravery

That means -4 Bravery just with good placement. And up to -(7+D3) with spells…
Hello Harridans and Banshees. ❤️
If the Harridan battalion get incorporated later in a mixed LoN bookn and can be taken in LoG… Well… Goodbye Inspiring Presence as well and start taking battleshock tests with possible -10 malus.

From what I can make out, the horrorghast looks to be 60 points... slightly higher than expected, still interested though.

Forgive me for the confusion though, how do we know what battleline units LoG uses? Because at the moment it seems like normal GHoN battleline options

I would like this more if I could. Thats a lot of bravery debuff.

Lordy those spell lores are all amazing. Only got 3, but they are all perfect. -1 to save is insane. -D3 bravery is insane. D3 mortals to every enemy within 6 on a 4+ is the weakest but can still be very good. This means Your General can be a walking -3 bravery and your caster can add D3.

Excuse me while I go buy some more Tomb Banshees...

We'll see if the banshee battalion carries over; Im guessing not, but that is indeed a lot of -bravery

Mortis Engine is in, great synergies there

Yeah, fairly sure there are no battalions at all, least that's the way it looks.

Still, gravesites change a lot
