n9d
After watching this game played a few times on youtube, I pretty much knew I was gonna like it so I just bought all of the boxes in one go. Haven't had a chance to play it yet but over the weekend I'm gonna finally get a chance to give it a go! In terms of decks, should we just go wtih the default ones or would you recommend making some custom ones for a better experience (if so, link appreciated). Any factions we should avoid for our first few games (guard I figure)? Basically, I *know* I'm gonna enjoy this game, it ticks like every box, just want to maximize the chances my friend I'm playing with gets a good first impression as well! Goblin-King
Playing with a friend at home - use starter decks. Remember to play Reavers smart, not bloodthirsty aggressive. If your friend is a veteran strategy game player, let him play Reavers. If he's a totral noob, let him play Stormcast. Personally I dislike making a deck for something I have no idea how actually plays. Also every player is different regarding their taste in playstyle and strategies. Start with the standard decks and gradually switch out the cards you find not to your liking.
n9d
Thanks Yeah I didn't mean make our own decks, just if there was some kind of like 'altering the default decks' type of thread we could just copy. We are both fairly inexperienced with mini/card games but have very extensive strategy gaming backgrounds, and he's especially good IMO so should be fine. Smed1986
I tried to introduce a friend to it using the standard decks and he opted to play Reavers, he wanted them to be super aggressive and played that way which just doesn't work as Goblin-king pointed out, from that he decided he didn't like the game and isn't interested in playing it with us despite 4 of us playing regularly. I would suggest going on the Warhammer Underworlds website and picking some decks from there to use, gives a little blurb about them as well which kind of points you in how to play that deck. Take your time with it first run through, remember things like drive backs and that no matter how many successes you score the damage is only applied once! (They're the most common things I see new players do/question)
Goblin-King
There are lots of great decks around the web and even on the official website. Question is if you have actually bought all the expansions? If not, it doesn't matter much as most deck lists you'll find will probably contain cards many from the expansions. If you only bought the base game, just use the standard decks to start out. The rules for support is also a point I would recommend reading over twice. It's the number one rule I see new players struggle to understand.
Zimagic
If you are sticking with the starter box, the above advice is great. However, if you're thinking of branching out, I'd go for Orks & play them against Stormcast. Between the base box and that expansion you have enough cards to play Stormcast defensive or offensive and a very solid, easy to grok, aggressive Orks warband. The match-up is a lot more balanced than Reavers Vs Stormcast imo which generally turns into whether you can get Garrek aggresive & online fast enough. I bought every expansion, not that badly priced and like I said, I'm very confident I'll enjoy this game and there's a store (like 1.5 hours away but still, I could play at if I can't rope any friends into it) At the very worst, I'll enjoy painting the minis. Thanks for pointing out tricky rules, I'll be sure to read those over carefully!

That's very useful. 16 minutes ago, Zimagic said: If you are sticking with the starter box, the above advice is great. SuperHappyTime
Just got to learn the game for the first time recently (My usual partner and I finally finished a game early enough to get one in). Honestly, play through the Quick Start rules and then play a game with only that as the rules. There are two things that pop out right away: 1. The QS rules are only enough to start playing with. Between you and your opponent, you start up the game as how you would think would make sense, and then you realize that it doesn't. It's a rocky second playthrough, where you may spend an entire game round just trying to get close enough to each other to start fighting, or have one side completely knocked out by the end of round two. It's awkward, but in a good way, because you don't go "This is stupid, lets try something else", You're saying "Hey, something isn't right here, lets look through the full rules and play this right." 2. Unfortunately, there isn't a "Second Mission" that makes learning the full rules a bit more methodical. Again, given how we decided we had to look up the rules, maybe the rules are very well designed.
