syph0n
Malus' face complete, which I did waiting for the top layer of the Drakespawn to dry: Glad I bought the dry brush!

Did the eyes first after the initial blue base coat. Made it ridiculously simple. Use a really fine brush and thin black paint and do the lines for the pupils, not dots, by slowly drawing down. Look at the model face on to avoid cross eyes too! Tidy the blue or skin tone, then away you go!

You end up with googly eyes with dots I find. Not only different sizes, but in different directions! ?
syph0n
Big update. Unfortunately not to show completed models, but some expansion (another hydra, dragon, 10 knights, a sorceress and 2 assassins) and some WIP and I also rebased the lot! WIP on 3 drakespawn units and a chariot. WIP drakespawn sorceress. Full army shot. I actually enjoyed rebasing, though the basecoat was a chore! This doesn't include the spears or shard conversions, a made to order dreadlord or 20 black guard. I also have a massive pile of Corsairs, chariots, kharybdis, dark riders... Might eventually sort for Legends or Open Play. Monday coming I will also have 2 boxes of Melusai and a Bloodwrack Shrine to go with 2 boxes of Doomfire Warlocks I have too, making a 1k list of Daughters of Khaine and some equally reptilian allies! Tomorrow I intend to paint the leather on 13 drakespawn (only black) and maybe teeth, spines, claws and a final belly highlight. We'll see! RexHavoc
Fantastic stuff, love the colour scheme. The darker colours suit them a lot. This will be one amazing looking force when all done!
MrZakalwe
I honestly can't want to see those drakespawn knights fully painted. They are rather beautiful so far.

I have painted Lokhir Fellheart however, just for a break. Basing to finish, but that will happen with the others. Snow and grass. He's a pleasure to paint, truly. Probably about 5 hours work ish. Back onto the drakespawn today, which I pray I can finish. I've renamed the thread as I've got some Daughters of Khaine as mentioned before. Also, my 7 year old son has got well into the hobby so he's got just over 1k of Stormcast I'll help him with: Retributor spray is very, very good. Recommended! Thanks @Chris Tomlinand others for the advice a while back on this.
Chris Tomlin
@syph0n - Looking good man. Lokhir is still such an awesome model. Love him. Great work on yours. And no worries re the gold spray, I'm glad you went with it as I can't recommend it enough.
syph0n
Malus joined Lokhir today. That's 1 (out of 25) knights done! Yay! Haha. And I took a better one of Malus. I have a DSLR so I need to take much better pics eventually.
Double Misfire
Surprisingly amazing looking simple body/head swap on Darkblade/Spite, great work.
syph0n
I've been meaning to review my Dreadlord on the Black Dragon. It's always bothered me that despite the body being a Corsair, that the arms and sword look very high aelven. The head came from a none GW dark aelf too. So, I think the legs were OK. I'm trying a new build, using a Melusai head, dreadknight body and arms, dreadlord scythe and the normal dragonlord shield. I've also got the crossbow from the dark rider kit and some dangling hearts also from the Melusai box. Not sure about the scythe. It's not big enough I don't think and it's quite awkward fit. Any ideas to replace it? I have the dark rider kit, corsair kit and the Melusai kit to work with, not much else unfortunately. I've added a throne, because I can now confidently make a sea dragon cloak that flows past it. Ideas welcome TGA.
Soulsmith
Firstly, that head is amazing on the body. For a weapon, either use an arm with the scythe to have it raised into the air. Otherwise, melusai spear would be great.
syph0n
Struggled to find an arm, however, using the dark rider/doomfire kit is excellent and there are two arms worth using. It meant cutting the knight arm above the elbow, then using the forearm. It's now provided two choices. A spear, or a sword from what I believe to be a Hero Quest sorceress. I could also potentially go back to the scythe because it's so cool, but that would be a lot more challenging to model as I think I'd have to replace the handle. Pics, any comments appreciated: Top left: sword Bottom left: spear (can't angle up due to the dragon itself) Top right: original rider (bit high aelf/Lord of the Rings) Bottom right: sword, corsair sword, scythe, accessories. Likely to use the hearts and dagger. Edit: probably worth noting I'd likely use the weapon in game as the sword or an artefact. Does that affect people's opinions? MrZakalwe
That's quite funny- my Dragonlord is a Dreadlord on Black dragon conversion and uses the Dark elf torso/legs We came at the problem from opposide directions.

syph0n
I'll do a big update. Lots finished since my last post, at least in this thread! syph0n
Refreshed my hobby pallette with a Corsair test model for a pirate themed Order list: Really enjoyed it and it was a quick job for me at least. Took about 2hrs 30 but basing took some consideration too. Going for a frozen coastal theme. Planks of wood, old weapons and rope, iced water. Just some snow to add. Here's an example on my Dark Rider test, which will be my Battleline used as High Elf Reavers.
Rhivan
I'm really enjoying looking at your army (and I've even accidentally found some of your more recent pics looking for conversions online) and I really like what you've done with them. Espesially your Dreadlord on Black Dragon that you've been working on. How you've done the lacquered purple on him is absolute beautiful. You're Dreadlord on Phoenix I'm also really excited to see more progress on
Orsino
Yeah, these are feckin gorgeous. The Melusai head works really well and I may steal your idea.
syph0n
I've started the actual dragon. Already done the rider and base, but I was scared of starting the dragon. It's not as bad as I feared, though yet to do the scales. No drybrush allowed this time, so I think this is gonna be a long one! Wings need a final highlight and some shading. Underbelly has had a basecoat. Posted elsewhere on here, but finished rider: And also to update, my pirate aelf army stuff:

Wanted the dragon done for Friday because I'm keen to paint some 40k and do other projects.
