Arkanaut Admiral
I’ve finally started painting them, and here’s my results so far! But since taking these photos, I’ve drybrushed the armour again and touched up the eyes. It’s all very experimental though, and I hope I’m not mucking it up. Mordeus
Cool! I like your metallics. Maybe another spot color would add some detail variety to the models?

Rogue Explorator
On one hand I really like how dark the colors on them are, it gives them a bit of a black ops vibe, which I find fitting for the faction. On the other hand they seriously lack contrast, so you really lose sight of any detail and they might end up just giving the impression of a dark blob placed as an full army on the table. So I will add to the suggestion for some spot color. The blue lenses and gubbinz could propably with some more brightness. All in all I think adding some extra highlighting could help seperate colors and details as well, even if it is something very subtle and easy, like a very light drybrush on the edges of the leather and metal. Yep, you’re absolutely right. My plan is to drybrush the armour again and edge it with runefang steel, then highlighting the boots, gloves, leather and overalls, to get that detail back. And if I get the courage, the eyes too. I’d say they’re about 75% done. Stage 4 out of 5.
Mordeus
Yea I agree with the Rogue Explorator. Other than that I really like this scheme. It's cool to see a darker more militaristic and realistic style of painting rather than the colorful GW ones. Are you gonna do any of the boats? I’ve actually got 7 Of them to paint, but I only need to paint 3 to make my tournament list. Think this scheme will translate well to the ships? Mordeus
It should but with that spot color included. The main problem is that from far away it will look like a big dark mass. Your metallics could be pushed even lighter perhaps?
Arkanaut Admiral
I do plan to lighten up both the metallics and the uniform. As for the ships, I’m coming around to the idea of painting the hulls green and light grey. I’ll try to see if I can find a pic that shows what I mean. Arkanaut Admiral
So I lightened up the company. I now hope they no longer look like a big solid dark lump.
Nutty
They look good! The base makes them feel a darker though. Not sure what you have in mind for them; but something 'light' like desert (bone/yellow) or snow/ice bases will really make the models pop. Arkanaut Admiral
Thank you for the advice Nutty! That’s what I was thinking of. Probably leaning more towards snow myself, as it matches our board and my main opponents bases as well. Although a desert yellow would look sweet. I’m still not decided. Here’s my latest work. A mostly done Admiral and more Arkanauts. The snow here is preventing me from spraying more models though.
Arkanaut Admiral
Just a quick update; I’ve almost finished my Admiral: I’m not really with his quilted ruff thing though. It’s letting the model down.
Mordeus
Interesting style for the Admiral. Yea the padded crown is divisive. I personally don't mind it, gives it a certain unique style. Are you going to add some more basing material around his rock?

I don’t know what else I could have done for the padding. I can’t decide if it just needs tweaking or if it needs redone.
Andrew Goldman
Look at those spec-ops steam-dwarfs at the begging of this thread reminded Tempestus Scions from the 40k, even models have the same vibe. Great work man!

I should have done more by now but we’ve had uncharacteristically good weather so I’ve been outside instead. I need to make some adjustments but overall I think it’s working. It is going to take a long time to do for sure, but I’ll have fun with it! I haven’t laid the paint down too thick have I?
