splitting a units attacks

I've read that a large unit with multiple attacks for a weapon can split these attacks however they like among nearby units, does this also apply for units with multiple models? e.g. i have a unit of 10 dryads, 5 are in attack range of 1 unit and 5 are in attack range on another unit, can I attack with 5 dryads on each unit?

Yes, each model can attack models in there weapon range. You only have to declare, which models are attacking which unit before rolling any dice for the attack.

Thanks, does it also mean I can split the attacks for one weapon on one model? E.g. if one dryad is within range of two units, can it do one attack on each?

Yes but you must divide all attacks prior to rolling dice, and each model can only attack units within its weapon range.

Thanks, according to my friend, the worker at our local GW store said otherwise, but I'm doubting their knowledge less and less the more they tell me
