ChrisT
Another newbie question coming up. How do you go about arranging a game of AoS without lots of discussion beforehand? In Warhammer it was easy you played X points. What do you do to have an enjoyable evening 2-3 hours of fun playing a good game as i have seen many methods. Mo Comp Wounds SCGT Is there a best way (guessing the answer is no but looking for some constructive way of playing. Is there a community standard? The reason i ask is that when i do play quite often it will be against a random person at the club, so a method where you do not have to search for downloads, or trawl through lots of specifics and rules. Would like to hear thought of you more experienced AoS gamers!
Keith Ball
SCGT pool and battle plans are the newest and latest so for me go with that pack for now. http://heelanhammer.com/scgt/
Ben Johnson
Hi Chris, I don't think there is a best way, pick one you both like the look of. The Battleplan is probably more important than the points/pools system you pick your army with.
Ben
Chris, Use Warscroll Builder (google it)
StoneMonk
As a "more experience AoS gamer" *cough* I'll give some thoughts. I don't get out to the club for random games, but I try and set up games with friends and usually have something up my sleeve planned to play. Ahead of time i will suggest a battleplan, comp points (scrollbuilder.com), and even ask if they want to attack/defend. We show up, play - fun is had. Takes the tiniest bit of work on my part, but people seem to appreciate NOT having to think about it too much and have a game to just step into. The Jabber Tzeentch
Scrollbuilder.com is quick and easy, doesn't really matter what system you pick for quick pick up games. Even simpler is the GW Clash of Empires Battleplan. True AoS and relatively balanced.
Knight of Ruin
Me and my wife don't use points or comps. We just grab a roughly equal looking force, and then the battleplan determines who is on what side. Depending on build/paint progress, that actually alternates from time to time and so far have provided with quite fair games.
Thor0298
I'd say using a battleplan is probably most important. In my store we've noticed that the balance is less important then because of the special rules introduced. Obviously if you are playing "that guy" it will still be imbalanced but if we try to have roughly the same force the battle plans seem to change things enough to make it close. Gaz Taylor
In my limited experience, it's always ask before hand but in a random pick up game I would have a selection of lists from each system that roughly fits my collection. In a few months shouldn't be an issue when the General's Handbook pops out
DeadlySarcasm
SCGT is how we do it down here, keeps things nice and easy, and you can just rock up to club knowing everyone has prepared the same thing!
