amysrevenge
OK, I have a very thorough Moonclan force (I can field everything other than a Squig Gobba). There's a local event in July. I was thinking about doing Order for it, but it sounds like we're running it as part of the upcoming global campaign, and I'm all-Destruction for the campaign, so it looks like it's gonna be Moonclan. The thing is, I want to add something to the army as a painting project, and I can't decide what to add. I own almost everything in Destruction, other than some of the Monstrous Arcaunum stuff (and even that i can proxy most of well enough) and the new Ironjaws. The first thing that jumps to my mind is maybe some Leadbelchers and an Ironblaster, but I'm open to try almost anything that would work well. Any ideas? *Not Savage Orcs - I have a lot of those to work on, but we're doing Orctober this year where a bunch of us pledge to work on nothing but Orcs for a whole month, and I'm saving the Savages for then
meet.the.doctor
I am also playing Moonclan and trying differet strategies for it. It is good if all 3 NG units are 30models each. It gives you buff to save and wounds. In most comps they cost nothing but the time to paint them(I am at 45 right now). And first thing is add as many as possible NG shamen (shamanz?). The mushrooms + Curse f Da Bad Moon is our only Mortal wound maker. Other thing is adding Skarsnik as warboss - Sneaky Schemes and Trixy Traps are another mortal wound maker. I surround my command (2+ NG shamen, Skarsnik) with those 3 units so they can't be caught by cavalery or units shooting from any side or summons from back. And as the proper answer to your question I add a unit of regular Trolls (2dumb2die rocks!), or sometimes rivertrolls (-1 to hit against armies which have buffs when rolling 6 on hits). Sometimes Giant (for fun), and from Monstrous Arcanum - Troll Hag and Fimirs- but I understand it is not in your case. It is tough to win with Moonclan. You have to play like a goblin- Sneaky and tricksy run from combat and inflict. Mortal wounds. Gather opponents to be less than 6" of each other for spells. And take a bucket of Fanatics. There is no limit of them for the unit apart from comps.
Gharak
There is only one thing you need with moon clan and that's squigs, more specifically mangler squigs, I'm planning on a minimum of 4 in the future as they just destroy things. If you desperately wanted something else I'd look at trolls or giants. They're both rela timely tough and pretty fast.
GreatRedoubt
Trolls would be my vote as well, or something that gives you rend -2, as the grots be light on units that can really hurt things..
Stauderpower
I second the manglers, I've been running two but am now cutting down to one as they just wreck armies ( most of my group rus pretry soft armies ). I run all moon clan (with got warmachines) and am having a blast. The goblin war boss with double damage command ability is fun too and can put out a LOT or damage out of nowhere ( especially on manglers ). The Warmachines are solid and give you some good hitting power from a distance. Hope that helps and have fun with the moonclan!
Furious
I have to second war machines. Speak Chukkas rip through characters and Doom Divers can cover essentially the entire battlefield (though are fairly unreliable with one attack and only -1 rend). Both can perform extremely well, if you know what to target. Pair them up, though, to get the synergy bonus. Otherwise they aren't worth taking. amysrevenge
I am thinking about Rock Lobbers. Mostly because I have 3 that are about 80% done... Otherwise, I've realized I'm out of 40mm bases right now, but have some the right size for Mournfang. So I might paint up a couple Mournfang, just for the project. gnaleinad
Oh I run a Moonclan Grot army. It's really just too powerful. They are a fragile DPS army, if you plan your moves well they are unstoppable! Just 2 spear chukkas and 2 Manglers Squigs will seriously ******-up any forces, when used properly of course! Sniping Heroes/Wizards!! Smash face with Manglers Squigs!! Put 15 fanatics in one 40 model strong Moonclan Grot with Hand weapon and shield. Bring a Moonclan Grot Warboss to use the command ability on the Moonclan Grot unit. They will get +2 to wound due to the numbers, so they will wound on a 2+ and deal double damage on a 4+. Use them against lightly armored enemies and they will perform! 20 cave squigs and 5 herders also can deal serious damage. So will a bunch of Squig Hoppers! If playing comp system, like SCGT, please use Warmachines.. 2 Spear Chukkas/Doomdivers + 2 Rock Lobbers.. If your enemies are hiding using line of sight snipe them with indirect artillery bombardment. If your enemies brought Cannons outrange him using Doomdivers and take out all his crews. No matter what you should bring 5 Night Grot Shamans! Cheap and good.. Your mushroom will fail sometimes and you should use mystic shields to increase your Moonclan units chances to deal damage before getting shoot to death. The normal Moonclan Grots units can be quite strong against shooting, you can bring them to a 3+ save against shooting with mystic shield! Mystic shield your Manglers and send them into the thickest of fighting, far from your units, so that their death is also good for you. Moonclans are stronger than you think! Especially the mindgame part! Once your opponent been on the wrong side of a Mangler they will fear it!! Use their fear against them.. So you have it.. Be Sneaky and deadly.. And win!!! amysrevenge
I've decided to go with some Ogors, just because I want to paint them. Of the 125 pools, I'll be running 30 pools of Troggoths, 35 pools of Ogors, and 65 pools of Moonclan. The Ogors will be an already-painted Thundertusk which I had to rebase, 6 Leadbelchers, and a Tyrant.
Malakithe
I'm going with 2 thundertusks for my ironjawz support
