New GHB, Deathlords army?

Hello,

I m thinking about starting a new aos army and I m really intrigued by the morghast models so I m thinking about making a mostly deathlord army with maybe nagash :)

Sth like Nagash, 6 Morghast, fill up the rest with random rest maybe skeles/zombies

Do you think an army like that could work?

I would really like to play a small elite army but I m a little afraid that it would not really be "viable"

Thanks for the answers!

With the balance changes, it's really hard to say at this time.  If Death still can get their 5+ Deathless Minions saves, I think a mixed list with Deathlords could still "work," especially since the cost of them has gone down 10-12%, allowing you to fit a bit more in, alongside the massive regiments of skeletons or zombies.

I am also wondering if we can still mix and match with just the death trait instead of going with a specific faction.

Me too, that s the wildcard atm. Hmmm thinking about maybe better taking 2 mortarchs instead of nagash?

Just use Death allegiance as long as you don’t care about ‘battleline if’ or faction allegiance abilities.

@ThDenkthink an elite death army would be a lot of fun. Morghasts are kind of expensive points-wise but they are awesome. Just out of interest why are you thinking of mixing skeletons and zombies with the morghasts?

Yeaaah, I'd imagine mixing that 5+ Deathless minions save, on top of the Morghasts' defenses (5+ mortal wound save as well), you can have a pretty hardy assault, not to mention the 3d6 charge on the one type.

Yep, they can do tanky or they can do choppy. You might struggle with some objective missions with such a low model count, but on the other hand they’re pretty quick and you could always just kill whatever’s on the objective.

But more than that I find them a lot of fun. One of my favourite tricks with harbingers is to summon them 9” from some important enemy hero and then show that it’s actually quite a manageable charge to make on three dice! It’s a shame I haven’t used them as much recently because I find vargheists are very similar to harbingers but cheaper, though they can’t be summoned and they don’t have that amazing charge.

I've been playing with a deathlords list under ghb 1 - kept a blog here

It's got legs, but unfortunately it's weak against heavy shooting, which seems to be the dominant meta at the moment.  Will be interesting to see whether it's more viable under 2017

Morghasts are brutal when they get in as is Manfred. Unfortunately their 4+ save often gets rended to pieces

Okay that sounds good!

Was thinking about adding some more "bodies" for said objective missions, and I also plan on getting maybe 1 or 2 SC boxes for the motarchs so I would have some of them. (Quesiton is 1 box and Nagash or 2 boxes and no nagash...)

hmmm and I also got a mournghoul now ^^

Pretty sure that you can't get +1 to deathless minions anymore, the command trait just extends the range of the ability for the General.

Cant confirm that though.

This is... unfortunately ... correct. Has been for a while. It was FAQd that the +1 only applied while in range of the general. I haven't seen any leaks about new death abilities... however I doubt we'll get back to the heady days of 5+ Death saves for everyone again.

You're mixing up GHB1 + FAQ with potential GHB2 allegiance battle traits.  In GHB1, you can make it so your general allows a 5+ Deathless Minions.  Stickybluetoffee is saying that under GHB2 there is no trait to give the +1.  I think you got lost in reading, bud.
