Dear Clavius,

Firstly I would like to thank you for the opportunity to delight your readers with my tales of adventure once again. Writing for Sigmar's Herald has always been a highlight of my career in journalism. Even now the nostalgia of my time working on the "Around the world in 100 Ales" section keeps me warm through cold nights in the field.  Anyway, enough reminiscing, on to business.

Please find enclosed the first draft of my journal for use in your newspaper.

Yours faithfully,

Ungrim Drek

TRIPPING THE AETHER - A DUARDIN AMONG OVERLORDS

For centuries the land beneath our feet has been fought over by tribes, armies and kingdoms, forever destined to fall from one hand to another. The sky, however, has always been the domain of one race of people. The Kharadron Overlords. These elusive sky sailing Duardin dwell above the clouds in floating fortresses they call a Barak ( Duardin for tower or gateway) that serve as cities, factories and ports all rolled into one. For the next year I will be living amongst the crew of the Barak - Vongal armada. I hope to learn their ways, understand their culture and witness firsthand the might of their fleet. All while reporting to you, my intrepid reader as your morning porridge sets in your beard and you make your first bowel movement of the day.

As with all journeys, they start at the beginning. Mine began as I was greeted in the Herald headquarters by Admiral  Thun Grumbaki of the Barak I was due to be staying at.  The Admiral cut an imposing figure as he stood before me in full combat armour, its tempered steel reflecting the light of the low morning sun. His head was uncovered however by his usual mask that allowed him to breathe the noxious fumes of the aether above. This I was to later find out was an act of respect for my position and not because of the casual way I greeted him. He saluted sharply and we exchanged pleasantries for a few moments before he hastily directed the conversation to my own attire. he had arranged for my own personal breathing apparatus and military garb to be delivered prior to our meeting and I had proudly slipped into it when I awoke. It turns out I was to be held to military standards however and received one of the sternest dressing downs of my career. I tried to laugh off the criticisms of my shabby dress as the perks of being a journalist only to see his face turn to stone. Apparently if I were to come aboard a military vessel of the Kharadron then I was to adhere to their standards. I started to get the feeling that I may have bitten off more than I could chew...

After making such an awful first impression I redoubled my efforts to charm the Admiral on the journey to the Sky-Frigate we were to travel on. I was on my best behaviour and acted with restraint unnatural for one as well traveled and well known as I.  The Admiral informed me that the Barak was young in Kharadron civilizations and had only recently started to hold a military presence. He himself had commissioned the fleet and was expecting it to be combat ready in the coming days. The fleets purpose was to secure mineral rich deposits among the clouds and regain power from a rival Barak that had undercut their prices and prospered while Vongal had spiralled into a recession when it had been too slow to react to the changing business world. I scribbled away as the Admiral spoke, barely noticing the looming vessel we had reached until it was almost upon us. A screeching  horn was heard as the frigate descended from its hovering position, causing me to drop my pad in alarm. As I looked up from the ground the great shining vessel shot its sky anchor into the earth and lowered a ramp  for us to climb aboard. The Admiral grabbed me by the scruff of my suit, pulling me to my feet and firmly lead me up the gang plank to my life for the next year.  I immediately regretted not going to the bathroom before we left.

** As you may have noticed this isn't your usual army blog. I have made the decision that rather than writing fluff and a blog for an army I enjoy, I will be combining the two. This may not work, it may be confusing and it may be alienating. However, I am keen to give it a go! If you would like to join in please feel free. If you wish to talk out of character, please reply to the thread with these symbols '*' around your text. This will help keep the thread a little easier to digest between the in character and out of character comments. Anything else will be treated as letters from readers of the Sigmar's Herald Newspaper. My KO Army should arrive in the post tomorrow so expect to see plenty more from Ungrim soon, cheers for reading!**

Dear Ungrim,

I have begun reading through the Sigmar's Herald when in civilization for your very story.

Fear not though! It has absolutely nothing to do with receiving word on another Barak's fleet movements, I promise.

Pleasent sailing onward to fortune and glory for your embedded fleet.

-E
