Theduke
Here was my first test model. The light really washes out some of the color but for a first pic this will do. I really wanted to have the skin be the only real color on the model. Ive seen finished a unit of 5 brutes and must say the models are just fantastic! Lots of detail, huge and just fun all around. Ive also finished my Megaboss, Fellwater Troggoths, and some Grots. Ive got plans to order a colossal squig which im really really excited to paint. Im thinking about a purple color scheme for all of my squigs.
Dez
I like it, though I do find myself wanting to see a little pop of color.
Soulsmith
Looking fantastic! I agree that maybe it needs the odd spot of colour to pop, could be as simple as weapon gore. Also, may be the washing out in the photo, but I'd suggest one final extreme highlight on the veins? They're so bulgy and begging for a little extra something. Maybe even blend/glaze them to a greeny red?
Xemenes
Really cool scheme, thumbs up from me, but I do agree a spot colour wouldn't go amiss. Also maybe its just the photo but the model kinda blends into the base a bit, can happen easily with silver minis on grey bases. But great work still! cb_rex
You know I don't think they do need a spot colour, the green skin looks great as the main colour on the model. I do however think they need some pale green or yellowy tufts on the base just to balance the model better and maybe even a lighter drybrush on the base texture so the boots don't blend into the base as much. The colour at the top makes the model seem a bit top heavy visually, if that makes any sense. If you wanted to add some spot detail then some black and white checks or some dags (maybe just on characters) on the choppa/armour would work well and nicely suit the restricted pallet colour scheme. I'm looking forward to seeing this army come together.
Theduke
Just a little wip for my Goblin Shaman. The light really takes a lot of the depth out of the skin out, I really need to get softer lighting. However just a rough start. Will post more images soon. hobgoblinclub
Superb! Love the skins tones. Skills to aspire to!
Soulsmith
Don't worry about the light washing it out, I can tell from the face and the leg what shades and highlights are on it and it looks great. A real beady-eyed nutter!
Theduke
He's slowly coming along. The light isn't quite as harsh in this one. Really love this little model. Lots of fun to paint.
Mengel Miniatures
What is the main green that you use for the skin? I really like it.
Theduke
@Mengel Miniatures I typically use Elysian Green as a base add Ogryn Camo. For the shaman I used 50/50 mix of the two as a base. He's getting close. Just a little bit of touching up and finishing his arm with his staff.
Soulsmith
Looking great. Looks like a fun and quick model to paint too, maybe it will end up as my grot shaman Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

cb_rex
This little guy looks great, his nose is maybe a little bit too red for my liking but the overall look is superb. I'm intrigued what colours you used for the navy blue as they've come out really rich looking.
Theduke
Thanks for all the compliments he turned out well. @cb_rex The navy is a mix of hawk turquoise and black.
Dangermouse425
Echoing the sentiments here, the Grot Shaman looks great. Looking forward to seeing more.
Theduke
Im trying to decide on what to work on next. Ive got a box of Ard Boyz but im debating converting a unit of Grot wolf riders. Im really enjoying painting up the little buggers. Anyone used wolf riders? Should I equip them with bows? or shields?
Soulsmith
I would have thought wolf riders are best suited to skirting around for objectives, and would be best therefore with shields to absorb incoming ranged wounds. But that's just theory. How would you convert some?
Theduke
I would get a box of fenrisian wolves and use them as the mounts. Then id just buy the bits to make the riders. Might be a little more expensive but the wolves from the actual grot riders are maybe the worst sculpts of an animal ive ever seen.
Mengel Miniatures
These are some fantastic looking Orruks and Grots. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of them. Thanks for the tip on the skin as well.
cb_rex
I did some Wolf Rider conversions I was pretty proud of on modified Fenrisian Wolves, with bows on their backs, but I never got around to finish painting them. Spoiler To be honest I probably wouldn't do them now as the Wolf Rider kit is so old and it's a big job getting them to fit the wolves. I'd also expect GW to have plans to do some kind of new Grot beast riding things at some stage.

I've got 24 of the little blighters, still on squares for now but I plan on rebasing them for my Waaagh Brigade army. They're ancient models really! Nice conversion with the Fenrisian Wolves, I have considered something similar for a Wolf-Mounted Shaman idea I had.
