Redking
Crimson would go better over gold. Alternate between thinned Carroburgh and Tamiya clear. Airbrushing the Tamiya will be the best route.
RuneBrush
If you're after a cherry/candy red I'd suggest a mix of the red gem paint and carronburg crimson (bloodletter glaze might work too?). Base colour varies the end result - silvers give you a candy red and golds more of a cherry red. The FW Angron Red was a perfect paint for this, but sadly no longer in production
SatanicBrew
Thanks fo all the suggestions! I will try and see what fits best, and if I get it to work I will try to remember to post here!
AlphaKennyThing
Initial wash of watered down Carrobourg Crimson, and then use Bloodletter red glaze. Should achieve a similar effect, but red.

Tommy
There's also GW's red glaze (which is different to the crimson wash) if you're limited to GW paints as some are. The WHTV guys did a tip of the day on glazes a while back, and my own experience (with the blue glaze) is that you can deepen the tint a lot by applying more than one coat. AlphaKennyThing
Followed a similar scheme, though added blue to the shoulders only and added some colours to heroes.

Drakenhof Nightshade all over. Light drybrush of Stormhost Silver. Guilliman Glaze on the shoulder pads and shields. Paint robes black. Drybrush Eshin Grey. Light drybrush Dawnstone. Probably the quickest miniatures I've ever painted!

SatanicBrew
Here is my try on the scheme. The picture doesn't do it enough justice but I am happy how it turned out, might add some more details as I go along.
