Hello all,

I'm a french dude, I used to be really into GW games as a young teenager. I loved the fluff, the illustrations, the universe. I never really managed to be patient enough to paint big armies or get into strategy but I played a lot of Mordheim and some of the first versions of path to glory.

I got back into it recently, just for the fun of converting and getting better at  painting. I discovered inq28 and all the blogs around it, then I found this forum just as I learned about aos28 and aos skirmish. I have a few ghouls and a necromant, plus a lot of spare pieces, and I am building a little warband with all the fluff to go with it. I don't have any friends into the hobby, but this place looks really cool with a lot of great talent, so I'm eager to exchange with all of you guys :)

I've been doing a desert thing so I think my terrain has been too warm looking.  I think I need to start introducing more grey and drab greens.  More yellowy dead plants like winter static grass.  Maybe make some rusted grey wood broken wagons and other worn down and weathered structures.  Sagging roofed miserable huts with rusted gutters and weather vanes.  Strange stone structures and megaliths erected long ago.  Drab green vines.  Maybe rusted occupied gibbets and foul trees.  Brass and copper idols corroded and blue.

Pine trees sounds like a great idea.  They're definitely less summery than other tree types.

Yeah I think you're on the right track! A more drab color palette, with hints of corruption and decay could work quite well. If you google pictures of the aral sea you can get some good inspiration for strange abandonned machinery too:
