Painting styles...and time!

We have those moments when we realise out painting style has changed. This is normal over time as we pick up new skills as improve outr hobby life!

It seems overnight my paint style has changed and it's all a bit weird!

I picked up Scyla Anfingrimm recently to enter into my local GW store competition.

It seems I've changed tack completely on how I approach miniature painting but only a week or so since I painted my last mini!

I'm putting this down to inspiration so will chalk it up to experience.

Anyway, the finished Scyla for your viewing pleasure ;D

Back to rank and file this week now I think.

This model has been so much fun to paint.

I love the fact that he's like a red hulk, stomping into battle and getting more angry and dangerous the more you hit him!

More soon in the form of bloodbound foot sloggers!

Lovely model, in what way would you say your style has changed?  What things have you learned etc that makes you feel a better painter?

Thanks for your comment.

I find myself using the colour pallet a lot more and using thin layers instead of solid hits of colour.

Also letting the sculpt dictate the paint effect has helped me. The lines and curved of the detail really help in making colour choice.

Do I think I'm better? I hope so! AoS has really reignited my hobby mojo and I am enjoying painting again :)

My problem now is to go back to my models I painted a few weeks ago and bring them up to par ;)

I think if you've found another way of painting things then you have definitely improved as it all add to your skillset... assuming you can remember your older techniques! :D

The first point is probably the fastest way to getting better results, although you need to consider where you paint so you can move around the model so things dry.

For the second point I'd say no. Leave them be and move onto more new things. Going back tends to lead to less motivation. Its always better to move forwards I think.
