Survival of the Fittest...or Shiniest

Kronak was still furious over the loss of his chimera.  After recruiting his new lieutenant, Skarlak, he immediately put him to the task of tracking down another chimera to add to his army.  To make up for the power he lost, he was able to recruit more of his Thunderscorn brethren.  During their march, a disgusting sorcerer who obvious followed the god of disease aproached Kronak and asked to join him for the march.  His purpose is unknown, but be brought a manticore, so Kranak allowed it.

Introducing Skarlak the Grey...also Cuchulag's glow up

"Cuchulag has become unreliable", thought Kronak after the fight with the nighthaunt army.  "I cannot afford to that kind of insubordination.  Who does he think he is?  I MADE him!".  To make matters worse, we lost the chimera that has helped us so much.  I think it is time to find a new champion.  One who will do as instructed.  There is on I have in mind that has been delving into the necromantic arts and will help me fight against the power of those ghosts should I need it again." Narrative from the Ghost Side

This is a narrative from my last game from my opponents point of view that I thought was cool and he allowed me to add here:     Night falls and the specters rise. As always in this realm, death has no true meaning here. Death is only just the beginning of an eternal service to the dark lord Nagash.  Tonight, was to be another for these specters to rise. Another night to haunt.  The Beasts of Chaos, a name they call themselves rather arrogantly. With the new realm taking

Power in Numbers...of Spooky Ghosts

As darkness descended, the army prepared to eat what little was left of the last village they raided.  Cuchulag, still feeling smug from his last victory, the breyherd amusing themselves, the thunderscorn off, away from the others as normal.  Suddenly a chill came over the camp.  This wasn't just the normal chill of night coming on, but something much more sinister.  Cuchulag could feel the excitement building and sensed something else, another challenger.... The glow in the distance a

Cygor Complete...Mostly

Finished the Cygor a little while ago.  Wel...I mostly finished the Cygor.  I think I'm calling him done for now.  I have a bunch of little dangly things that probably should be added but I kind of like it how it is and ran out of motivation.  I'm worried it will be  little busy with too much more but he probably needs a few things on his left hip which looks a bit bare.  I do also have a head and arms for a Ghorgon which I can swap out if I need to.

Cuchulag's Vindication

Kronak looked out at his enemy, "So the followers of the blood god have found this amber deposit as well.  He will be happy with the blood flowing today, but it will not be ours.  Cuchulag, we will handle the brunt of this.  Go to the right flank and deal with his lesser followers and try to stay in the fight this time." Cuchulag grumbled at the disrespect but followed the orders.  He sent his group of Bestigors to sweep around and attempt to outflank the enemy.  As he looked out, he saw wh

Army Updates

I completed the Dragon Ogors right on time for my first 1000 pt fight.  I ran into a bit of a conundrum here.  It has been a couple years since I painted my last Dragon Ogors and I couldn't decide if I should try to match them or just do what I liked now.  Some of my paints and tools are different and I had some different ideas.  It first came up when I put a very different green paint on them.  When I saw then next to each other, I was a bit worried.  I decided to lean into the difference and j

A Couple Matched Play Battle Reports

Here are a couple games I played with my beasts.  These aren't part of the league so no narrative on these but use a lot of these same models.  These were my first "real" games of v3 and the first time I've used the BoC in a couple years outside of the escalation league. First battle was 1000 pts vs Gravelords.  I brought two units of Dragon Ogors, a Chimera, Ungor Raiders, Ungors for sacrifice, a Shaggoth general, and a shaman.  I used Gavespawn.  He played Radukar the Beast, a character t

The Thunderscorn Return

Cuchulag sat contemplating... "It's true that I just barely got away from the reavers, but we did accomplish our mission and discovered the amberstone ley lines, so why is the boss coming here.  Kronak hasn't come down from the mountains in years, since his last attempt to find a way to Azyr.  This is my fight, not his!  He recruited me.  He recognized the talent.  I will show all of these lesser being the true meaning of chaos!  My new shaman thinks he's detected a cockatrice in the area t

Training Ground of the Gods

Cuchulag surveyed the field.  "My previous shaman failed to hold for even the hour required for me to arrive.  You've done better Grimtoe.  Now get me that Chimera".  Grimtoe the shaman had found the next target, another nexus of magic.  Cuchulag was searching Ghur for these nexus to corrupt for chaos and bring him power.  This time, it brought them the legendary training ground of the gods which had been lost, said to only revel itself to the great heros. Across the battlefield, he saw arr

Maeve Shadowblade - the antagonist

The memories flash back like they are still happening, often at the most inopportune moments.  Sigmar's forging techniques have become faster and the humanity of previous lives remain more vivid.  Maeve can still see in her mind the first time she saw Thostos Bladestorm and his "Angels of Zi'Mar", our sky god, come to her village on the Roaring Plans of the realm of beasts.  She thought they were saved, they all did.  Their mission was elsewhere. That experienced changed her though, Zi'Mar,

Now that's a Shaggoth!

Since the escalation league I'm playing in uses Anvil of Apotheosis characters (building from a single 20 pt to eventually having a 40 pt and a 30 point) I thought this would be a good opportunity to make a real Shaggoth.  I've been eyeing the Drakon model from Creature Caster (above) since it was released a couple years ago but the normal Shaggoth rules seem too small for it. I built an Anvil of Apotheosis character (35 points) to represent him.   I need to slightly violate the rules becau

Initial 500 pts completed

Completed two Bestigor units and that completes the first 500 pts for the escalation league (plus AoA character and a Chimera to summon).  Just in time for the last 500 point game tomorrow.  The beast lord on chariot (Cuchulag) I got a couple years ago on ebay with a few other chariots, already painted well and in a style close enough to my own.  I touched him up a bit and finished the base. I always struggle to decide how far to go.  Mostly I'm just trying to get them done.  At some point

Musings and Army Planning - Dragon Ogors and Monsters Oh My

My current 2000 pt army was built for v2 to be semi-competitive while still using Dragon Ogors and monsters where possible.  Nessessities of keeping them competitive meant that I couldn't have too many of what I really loved.  I always played with 6 Dragon Ogors (sometime as one unit, sometimes two), a Shaggoth, and an Ghorgon.  The rest was mostly Bestigors, ungor raiders, and some support because that was what was actually good.  I did fairly well with that army, especially considering how bad

Chimera Completed

So...I should be painting my 500 pt army, but I got monster fever so here is the Chimera that I will try to summon (which didn't go well last time)

Battle Report: Swirling Objectives

Vigug, the Brey-Shaman led the vanguard of the Breyherd out to meet Cuchulag.  His knowing eye revealed to him that this would be the place they would need to capture and hold to collect the primordial forces.  He set up the herdstone for he know the dreaded knights of Sigmar would be here soon.  He'd heard rumors that Sigmar, in his vain attempt to thwart the natural laws of chaos has created yet more upgrades to his mindless undead servants.  Then they arrived, sure enough.  A small detachment

The Herd Expands!

I started this Blog a couple years ago when I first started building a BoC army.  I'm doing another slow grow league and using it to finally paint the rest of the army and learn how to play in the v3 rules.  I'll post progress and battle reports here as I go. This time.around, I have most of the models built but not painted so that will be the focus.  We are also using Anvil of Apotheosis.  My character is Cuchulag, a Beastlord on chariot, inspired by the Irish Celt legend, Cuchulain H

Battle vs Moonclan in Chamon

Kronak has been fighting from realm gate to realm gate, desperately trying to find his way back to Azyr.  He steps through the latest gate, the taste of metal in the air, Chamon, and it is cold, very cold.  As his army makes their way through the freezing environment, they find their next gate only to find a bad moon shrine, and an army led by a huge Troggoth arrayed against them.  He sends his expendable breyherd to encircle...he will not be stopped here. ------- I got my first game i

1000 pts complete!

Finished the Ghorgon just under the wire.  This brings me to 950 points so I'm calling the first 1k complete.  I'll either keep it there for the command point or add geminids. I think I'm going to take a break from building the army for a bit to work on other armies.  I'll keep posting battle reports here as I learn to actually play this army.

Monster Time

Finally time to build a real monster.  The Ghorgon will bring the army to 950 points   so far fun to build.  Painting will commence soon.  I decided to leave some of the detailed hanging parts off for now.  I will definitely add the bell around his neck.  I may not add the other pieces.  Sometimes I think GW models get a little to busy.

Brayherd Enter the Frey

Finally completed this months set of models that sees the Brayherd reinforcements.  I went with a fairly straightforward paint scheme, partially because that is what I like and partially because of time.  This competition really helps push to finish things.  I know a bunch of "not quite finished" parts of these models but am still pretty happy with them on the table.  Definitely better to be done.  I tried a bunch of different skin colors and a couple hair colors on the Ungors.  Let me know

Reinforcements

The Dragon Ogors need some help.  We've recruited a local Breyherd.  This months figures: a unit of Beastigors, a unit of Ungor Raiders and a Beastlord to lead them. Only need 250 points this month and after the last set of games, I figured I needed some bodies. Assembled and started to paint.  If I finish these early, I'll probably paint a Sorcerer Lord on Manticore that I've been meaning to finish.

First Blood

Kronak takes a small vanguard of thunderscorn through the realm gate.  Their first step towards finding a way home.  They arrive in the realm of Ghyran and quickly discover five other forces to contend with.  "To arms brothers and sisters."   We had a small tournament with 500 pt armies we built for the campaign.  We played 4x4 tables with a bit of narrative.  Realm was Ghyran and each game gave benefits to winners. It was a bit rough for Kronak and his Thunderscorn.  With only th

Kronak Awakens

Kronak, awakens.   The crack of Azyrite thunder in the distance - was it a dream.  Then twice more.  The distinct sound he hadn’t heard for a millennium.  Not like the barbaric imitation heard in this realm, the realm of beasts.  More still.  There can be no doubt. Kronak ascends the roughly carved steps to the mountain peak where his decrepit tower stands.  At the top of the tower, he turns his enormous looking glass in the direction of the storm.  It creaks from disuse.  He sees teal clad
