    The Hag!

    By Eevika

The Troggoth Hag is definitely a piece I believe every Troggoth army needs. It's amazing as a model and amazing on the table. I rarely do such detailed eyes and faces but when working on a model that is the centrepiece of your army you want to spend some extra time just to make it special. This is surely the best work I have ever done on a models face and I think there is just a lot of character and emotion on the model.  My smaller Troggoths are just green and blue but for t

Pointy sticks of Doooooooooom!!!

I was going to work on corsairs next, but got distracted by my old bolt throwers.  These are the old metal versions. I built them about a decade ago, with the brilliant idea of putting in spaces for the crew to sit on the base.  Of course, the rules for DE bolt throwers in AoS were lacklustre at best, so I only used them once or twice. Now, with Cities of Sigmar, I realized I could run them as Sigmarine Celestar Ballistae, and have decent rules with great old school models t

White Lions

Spent some time painting up both the old metal and the newer plastic incarnations of White Lions; very happy with the results! The metal ones actually have a certain charm, especially in the way the pelts drape around the body, even if the single-piece side profile poses get a bit old. The plastic kit was spectacular; I'm sad that it's now OOP. As usual, there are way too many gems -- I count 14 (!!) on just the champion alone, but I'm good at painting batch painting them at this point.

Treekin

I finally finished these treekin after getting them in December and setting them in alcohol for 5 months.  The caked on glue just peeled off and I ended up with these.  I know they arnt really sylvaneth but I like these guys and painting them was fun.  I also converted a spellsinger into a branchwraith I think of as a thornwych like ylthari from shadespire.

Magic Sand Things

Another short one I'm afraid, and I've only got a few left to go so I thought I would keep it alive by not merging this one into another one. This one was quite interesting to think up, I was wondering what was going to make my trench special. Then a few days later someone told me about using sand on your models to sort of look like grass, I wasn't interested at first since I already new what the bases of my models look like. Then I thought that that would be good in my trench, but what would ma

The First Test (not as evil as it sounds.)

This is my first (proper) entry on the blog, and it is going to be a bit of a boring one today, but next one is going to be quite long and detailed, so I'll start writing it now to ensure that it is the best quality. I did say in my last post that if I rolled something on the exploration table that wasn't a battle, I would do it as my second one any way... My first roll on the exploration table was: No, it wasn't 2, it was ! 9 on the exploration table is so I h

A little introduction.

So here in this entry I am going to introduce you to the idea of the campaign. If you know me or my army, you should know that I play exclusively death. I know Skeletons vs Nighthaunts is a bit weird but I have come up with a story (despite appearances). My heroes are: Crixius Shadowend, the Necromancer, Fonasphef The Exalted, the Wight King, and Vasilisa Rickenbacker, the Vampire Lord (or Lady) The story is that Nagash has sent them to an out to an outpost in Stygx (my

So Close to a Legit Force

I just wrapped up the first cavalry unit. Several nights were spent in a mental state not conducive to detail work, but oh well. 🙂 I just need to finish two more Mortek Guard and a hero to get them on the table (though some already were in a winning game of Warcry). This is getting exciting!

Painting: Lets add some colour!!

In this one I am going to paint most of my terrain; so that is the lava pool, the bridge, and the simple ground. Here we go!   With the carving all done I started to add some colour to my “lava pool”. First I watered-down yellow, and applied it all over, then a heavy drybrush of orange (you can’t see it very well in the photo) Then a lighter drybrush of brown and then black.   I then painted the ghostly ground with a watered-down green, to which I then did a heavy

Gathering boulders and dead trees (obviously not in lockdown)

This one is quite a short one, but I will do my next one tomorrow. First, I went to the beach and collected some driftwood, stones and shells… (I wasn't in lockdown at the time) And here you can see that I am positioning them on my model, I tried a few varieties of where they would go, but I was pretty certain of where I thought they would go already. I liked the idea that there would be a tree (stick) hanging over the lava pool. I was even at one point thinking about

Progress report: Redux Quarantine Ed

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here but a recent thread got me thinking of my unfinished projects.  I based a bunch of my treekin I had soaking some December when I got them as a gift for Christmas.  A cheap 20 us and 5 months and I gave a cool unit.  I plan on getting the treelord from that generation as well.  If I was to play I would hope my opponent wouldn’t care if I allied them in. Summon a lifeswarm next to them and they could do their job.  My next aspersions are to get 3 se

GHLUBLARGALGURGLE!!! 170 pts of tentacled horror ready to haunt my table. C’thulhu would be pleased. The beastmaster chaperone is not glued in place, just pinned, so the angle’s a bit goofy. But I need to move on to something new already. Going to update some corsairs for the army. This was a lot of fun to paint, but I kept repainting areas over and over. I just couldn’t get the dark plates on the back to work, until I realized the secret was to reverse it out, and paint a light c

Starting the carving

This entry is of how I started to carve the area of my scenic board set in the realm of death. I started with these two pieces of equipment that I got on Amazon, below, you can see my electric foam cutter and my bottle of “ Vallejo Water Texture” Here is the scalpel that I used for more rough cuts I started with this piece of insulation foam.  Then I did my first carving, as shown here. Here is the rough start of the positioning of my pieces.

Sisters of the Thorn Basing

I'm not that happy with the stags themselves- I've just done the GW base/highlight type scheme and it looks a little simple, but in any case the basing is done! This is a good illustration of what the elf bases will look like- lots of different tufts and some of ******'s excellent Wild Meadow static grass sheets.

Prologue

I love miniatures games. I have collected and played them on and off for over 30 years now and the I believe the first one I bought was the original Adeptus Titanicus (the one with the polystyrene buildings) so Games Workshop has always had a special place in my heart. I've played a few GW games over the years, most notably Blood Bowl but also including among others Warhammer 40K, Lord of the Rings, Adeptus Titanicus, Epic 40K, Battlefleet Gothic, Space Crusade, and Space Hulk. Here is my d

Mortal Realms - Castigators

Mortal Realms - Progress 4 - Castigators Progress continues to be made in clearing the back log of Stormcast from the mortal realms magazine. The next delivery lands any day now so it's all hands to the pump so to speak.    I've pretty much put the base colours on the collection of Castigators I've got. Now the eagle eyed amongst you will have picked up on the fact that by issue 10 (the issue I'm currently up to on deliveries), I should only have 5 Castigators, whereas I have 8. E

Fort Stanley

Seeing as Rubyville to the east got some buildings and a ruby, the west is starting to cry favouritism. The beginnings of Fort Stanley. The roofer left behind some blue sm. Didn’t quite make it to the dumpster. The walls have got a start with ideas about a front gate and a tower I made/had from awhile back.

Some more Fluff

I feel the fluff flowing. There will be a town between the Duardin mountain deeps of the Maddening Whorl and the city of Matorea. It will be called Rubyville. Tentatively because the Duardin gifted the town for coming to their aid and saving the contents of a valuable caravan that was heading for the port. It was never discussed as to the contents but it had to be valuable as they gave them a mined ruby of incredible proportions. This has nothing’s to do with the fact my eldest cat is named Ruby

A brief history of Matorea

Decided to add some fluff to this would be city state. Props to @Baron Klatz for coming up with the realmgate ideas.   This also adds a future grievance between the Lumineth and the Deepkin as the difference between the high born and the failed experiment resulting in the Idoneth.    Matorea  Located in the realm of Ghyran on the Northern Peninsula west of the The Battle of Pale Gorge and North of the festermere realmgate is the city/port of Matorea that has a Greywater Fastness af

The full army!

I realised i hadn't gotten my full army out, so I did! This is all the Cities models I have, but is well over 2,000pts. I'll be running the army as different cities and swap in models depending on what works in each city, but to start, it'll be a Hallowheart (or Magic type city using Hallowheart rules). All armies will have Huron, the Nomad King, as it's general.  Here's the full list-  Huron, Nomad Prince General, comes with 10 Pheonix Guard as his retinue. All e

Runelord

My plan is to paint most of the army relatively quickly, but to make them bright and stand out on the tabletop. The aesthetic is a little old school- bright and colourful- as homage to WHFB, so the usual layer/highlight process works well for my purposes.  Here's the Runelord for my army. The colour theming will be Hallowheart blue for all humans and dwarves- they live within the city- and greens and autumnal colours for elves- they live in the forests around the city and emerge to protect

The Matorean Lodge of Greywater

Came up with a proper name for the Duardin!       These are from the Skulls Pass starter set (?). I remember getting 2 sets of the dwarfs and I still can’t locate the mule train.  it’s the next project and I’m waiting for 100  25 mm bases from China for the 80 stabbas and shootas and I just ordered 100 slotted 25 mm bases from Spain. Think I’ll be waiting awhile for both. Until then, it’s the square bases.  Also, a squig ran from One the herd’s awhike back so I had to import

Celestial Hurricanum Finished

The Celestial Hurricanum is now complete! It's about 10hrs paint time total, though with a model this size that's a speed paint pretty much! Love the details on this model. Likely next model will be the Dwarf Runelord as a break from such a complex model!
