Best wizard to ally in for BCR?

I think the allies rules have changed, page 17 of the new rules reads "One out of every four units included in an army can be an allied unit." . So you would need 12 Beastclaw units in your army to run 4 allied wizards 😟

AoS 2 and what it means for Destruction

Pure BCR were never really good. The allegiance abilities and artefacts are just too weak. Their strength lay in the Monster/Rukk combo lists where there was access to better stuff. So don't pine for the old days too much. Making the Monsters cheaper is fine so long as they raise the limit on behemoths for BCR from 4 to 5/6. Otherwise it just means more unimpressive Mournfang in the list. Yes I know I can take more wizards or allied chaff, but just making a point. BCR are all about the monsters, and being allowed to take more is more thematic.

Plan for the Destruction forum post AoS 2.0 - PLEASE READ

Yup, I agree with most of the above. Lock the old threads and start start new ones for each battletome. Chris and Kieran know whet they are doing. I'm happy to leave it to them (and then knock their 'eads togevver if it ain't right, right?, Right!)

    Lets chat: Beastclaw Raiders

This Beastclaw article is just a snippet of the new rules. I think we should all remain positive - with luck we will have a viable army again. It will not be the same as it was before, but then neither will any other Battletomes army. So long as we can put a couple of interesting, viable lists together we will be Golden. Just need GW to get on and release the flippin' books!

LOL. You are quite right. I think that because a Butcher is also 140 points, I blotted the Firebelly out of the Beastclaw allies - my mistake!

    Lets chat: Beastclaw Raiders

So I just read through the article on the Community Site. I've been away from Beastclaw for quite a while now, and am pinning my hopes on the new edition making them worth fielding again in competitive play. I LOVE my Beastclaw and want to field them again! The first part of the article - Meh! Anyone who has played Beastclaw for 3 games or more could have written that. But the bit we are interested in is what's happening in AoS2. The key points I can see are: 1. All Thundertusk and Stonehorn units now cost less, AND several warscroll battalions have likewise been discounted 2. Firebelly can be taken - so changes in allies, and better access to magic 3. Access to Realm specific artefacts (though whether these will be available in matched play remains to be seen) 4. Thundertusk shooting gets neatly around the new Look out Sir rule. So a few teasers, but nothing to get too excited about - unless the points drop is truly substantial. Personally I would prefer to keep cost of monsters high, but make them better. A points drop is fine, so long as we can take more than 4 monsters. I'm still very excited for Beastclaws and am keeping my fingers crossed that AoS2 will put them back into being a mid-table army

Events UK: SCGT Warmup Event - 1 Dayer - Leeds 21st April

A few reminders prior to this event on Saturday 1. The venue is the Shadwell Village Hall NOT the scout hut where it has been previously - here's a google map https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Shadwell+Village+Hall/@53.8528741,-1.4837058,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x6d5a6fa315381424!8m2!3d53.8519628!4d-1.4737924 2. Please bring your Malign Portents book and cards if you have them. I will have photocopies on a board for people to peruse if they do not have them, but MUCH easier if you have your own. 3. Please bring 5 pieces of scenery. If you do not have any - let me know ASAP and I will provide some for you. 4. We are still accepting entries (just added another today) I will accept entries right up till 9am on Saturday - just before we start!

Events UK: SCGT Warmup Event - 1 Dayer - Leeds 21st April

Okay, so the SCGT 2018 pack is out. Find it at http://heelanhammer.com/SCGTdownloads/SCGT2018eventpack.pdf It's confirmed that 2 of the games are missions from Malign Portents Book - Dark Omen, and Heralds of Woe. The prophecy points will be used too, so read up on them. I have a couple of queries about the rules, so will try to get them clarified by Dan or Russ before our event, and post here. So the other scenarios are Battle For The Pass, Duality of Death, Star Strike, and Total Conquest. I am happy to play any of these as the third scenario on the day. So if you have one which you particularly want to play, then please post below, otherwise we'll roll for it on the day.

Less than 2 weeks to go to this event now. I'm happy to take entries right up to the day. Dan Heelan says the 2018 SCGT pack should be out later this week, so we'll know exactly what we are doing then and you can get your lists together in good time.

    "Just Play Better"

Lol. Yes I tried to continue with Beastclaw, but the 'fun' of running a Beastclaw list quickly wore thin when it was getting beaten so easily in so many tournaments. I switched to Stormcast Vanguard Wing, which is definitely competitive (though not as invincible as people made out) but was winning me no friends and was essentially someone else's Netlist. So I have been evolving a skink based Seraphon List. Currently has 160 skinks in it . It's doing quite well. I won 4 out of 5 games at my most recent tournament (30 players) and placed 5th. I'm enjoying it as it's 'my' list. I'm also excited about the 'Fishmen' that are about to be released and probably will go all in with them for a while. But in my heart I want my big monsters back, so everything else is just filling time till we get our rules back.

Unpainted armies/units ARE allowed. Hey, it's a warmup event! However, models must be fully built, WYSIWYG and on correct sized bases - I do have some standards :-)

Events UK: South Coast GT 2018

I see Dan Heelan has tweeted that 2 of the scenarios at SCGT 2018 will be "using the two Malign Portents Matched play scenarios at the event. For those two games the portent ‘buffs’ rules are live also" These are 'Dark Omens' and 'Heralds of Woe'. I am sure that most people (like me) have never played these and are unfamiliar with them. So they will be two of the scenarios that we will be playing at the Leeds SCGT Warmup Event on 21st April. Details at We will also be using the Malign Portents Points Buffs - as set out in the SCGT pack when it is released. An excellent opportunity to practice these rules beforehand rather than spending half a game at the SCGT event trying to learn them on the fly.
