  1. Well, my main interest is in the new Path to Glory rule set and how that enhances narrative play. I don’t have any issue if the rules become more “technically” written. As a rule set I think they did a good job of making 9th Ed 40K fairly clear, not that the current AoS rule set has any particular problems (the fact that 3 years after it was released they’ve not had to put out a single errata for the core rules is testament to how well they were written - despite having just complemented 40K rules I think they lasted 2 weeks without an errata.) I expect this will be an unpopular opinion but what I would be dissapointed to see is a move towards multi-level progressive scoring in narrative missions. Almost all 9th Ed 40K missions including the so-called “narrative” missions are progressive and many of them really shouldn’t be. I don’t want to have to “take notes” during games and this is impossible in 40K as it stands. There is no longer any truly casual beer and pretzels way to play 40K and I’d hate to see AoS go the same way.
  2. Very much so. Lots of upgrade tables in the core rules and several pages of additional rules in each codex. Theres also a campaign supplement out which adds yet more Crusade content. My only gripe with it is that it’s done away with narrative scenarios in the sense that I find many score like a matched play game and don’t try to be different. I rarely play those missions and instead look for scenarios from older editions. With that in there, I love it!
  3. Two generic abilities - better attacks when near an objective and 1 that lets 2 different fighters take a bonus attack Two leader abilities - one that lets certain models increase their toughness and one that gives better attacks to nearby units after they’ve taken out an enemy. Two more specific abilities that several models can use but not all. 1 of these is for shooting units, 1 for great swords, wardens and rangers. Don't want to be breaking copyright so I think that’s all it’s safe to say.
  4. Glad you could answer that. I’m not familiar enough with the free guild models.
  5. 6. In Hamilcar, it’s confirmed that only humans have been made into Stormcast. It then goes on to say that up until a few years ago no one knew about the Sacrosanct chamber. ”make of that what you will” is the next line. So in one sense it’s open ended but for now it’s human only.
  7. For what little it will help your situation I can tell you there are genuine narrative gamers out there. I play in a great group that is heavily narrative focused. We play games several times a month and always try to do something different. We have regular truly story-driven narrative campaigns, where people don’t try to just bring super powered lists but play to a story they’ve helped create and love. My only advice from this for anyone who wants to get into narrative gaming is to be a champion for it but also be collaborative. If the stories created mean something to everyone involved then that drives their involvement. The best stories evolve - take a simple small concept for your first game and let it take you where it takes you.
  8. I think the next big event is more likely to be the release of Slaanesh. A lot of those recent rumour engines are very Slaanesh looking. The mortal side of the Dark Prince’s followers I suspect. (Either that or its Emperor’s Children for 40k)
  9. Yes. Technically before anything.., including terrain... is placed on the table.
  10. If I get 3 maybe I can make a super pyramid.
  11. Fyreslayers is in White Dwarf this month. Wasn’t expecting that everyone else probably knew that lol!
  12. Quest to uncover the secrets of a StormVault
  13. I’ve got three ongoing at the moment although one is still a bit vague. The Procession of Mourning is a Nighthaunt mounted force (includes some converted models). It’s a mysterious force that seems to be able to appear and disappear as if they have their own Realmgates. They are focused around a Black Coach to which souls are fed to. No one knows what’s in the coffin or what might happen if it gets enough soul food. Or maybe there’s more than one procession. It’s led by a Knight of Shrouds known as the Bereaved with a Torchbearer (Guardian of Souls), Master of Rites (Spirit Torment) and the two Companions (Dreadblade Harrows) known as the Bearer of Woe and Bearer of Anguish. They are followed often by the Mourners (Tomb Banshees and Mymourn Banshees). The story of the Necromancer V’rem Drelchs and the mute Wight Lord Kriel started when they were spotted in the ruins of Shadespire, searching for a way to awaken Kriel’s spirit. Since then they’ve gone on many quests, retrieving a damned banner, seeking knowledge from mysterious orbs and recently attempting to forge a Dread Abyssal for the Wight Lord to conmand from. I’ve no idea who he actually is, why V’rem is inextricably tied to him or maybe who sent them. Always better as a mystery I think. The army is basically all Deathrattle with 1, occasionally 2 Necromancers. The 2nd is Navier the Blind, whose army was stolen when, upon sighting Kriel and his banner immediately dropped to their bony knees in supplication. He sticks around to try and work our what happened and how he might wrest control of his forces back. My Stormhost chamber is the least well defined. I’ve played several games with them, often as part of the ongoing story of a Purple Sun they accidentally released from a damaged Realmgate. They are in shame because of the mistake they made and are trying to find a way to stop the Endless Spell before it wreaks havoc on the realm. Still don’t even have a good name for them yet. One key element of is that, except the Sacrosanct chamber, the Stormcast never remove their helms. Again not decided why yet.
  14. The images on the cards sometimes make it hard but each card is for a different model of some kind. Primes, different weapons etc.
  15. Well I’ve never done one of these but it sounds like fun so I’ve put myself down for a ticket.
  16. Tad bit disappointed to be honest but I can live with just painting the terrain, taking time to read the book and deciding what I want to buy while I wait for the rest to come out.
  17. Everything except the special characters, but mainly the crawler and cavalry appeal.
  18. Someone recently suggested to me having him carried aloft on Spirit Hosts. Could make for an interesting conversion.
  19. Really great work. Seeing a full table of that will be amazing!
  20. Arkhan confuses me a bit. Is he part of the army or are they just using him as a chance to re-release some rules for him? (Appreciate we can’t know yet). Would be quite a shift if they can have two Mortarchs (as in could have either rather than only being able to include the other if you include the primary Mortarch for the “legion”)
  21. Lore wise the Nighthaunt have been capturing Stormcast Souls since before the Necroquake so this could well be what Nagash has been using them for.
  22. There’s a wide variety of people who play narrative, matched and open play - many play all 3. The beauty of AoS2 imo is that the difference rules-wise between them are so few that you can easily jump between them or mix them up without getting confused. While there’s been a lot of chat here about top tier competitive tournament players it’s worth considering that lots of people go to these events who don’t just always go for the top tier lists and happily enjoy seeing how far they can get with an unusual list. I always enjoy hearing their stories. On the flip side I know of lots of narrative players who aren’t into events but who love creating stories on their casual games. Whats great about the General’s Handbook is that the new content and ideas are so easily ported between all the different ways to play that it’s easy to mix and match to create truly unique games, however you want to enjoy them. (I wish GW could do that with their other game systems as well).
