  1. I've only played one match against the FEC so far, but I gather they're pretty strong at the moment. Like the Idoneth, they seem to break a lot of the fundamental rules of the game, too, so you have to be careful playing against them - forewarned is forearmed. Or four-armed, as we're Tzeentchy 😁 If that was a regular opponent, just ask them to take a bit of time to run through what his army can do, so you don't get caught with your pants down. You already noted the move with your enlightened was too aggressive. Keep them back and use them to counterattack against an aggressive army like FEC. Try positioning them about 2" behind the acolytes, so that anything charging them drags them into combat, but can't attack them directly - that allows you to pile-in with them, and makes sure that an enemy unit within 3" has already attacked, so they get all the re-rolls. It's also worth noting you got some bad luck with your magic turn 2. We really suffer if our casting dice ****** us, and turn 2 is often pivotal. Thats usually when everything's in range for us to throw out some serious mortal wounds. Hope that helps!
  2. Yeah, I've found the complete opposite. No-one round here uses PL, even for casual pick-up games as the balancing is wildly off-base. It's the main reason I don't play 40k anymore. Army building with normal points is a massive headache as the options, equipment costs etc are all spread out in different parts of the books, sometimes in different books altogether! I'd much prefer that AoS sticks to its own thing and not get bogged down in all that nonsense.
  3. Is there anything positive about the player that you could highlight or focus on? They might be more receptive to criticism/advice if they see the relationship as less adversarial. Maybe if you've got some common ground outside the hobby you could chat about? As others have pointed out, though - it's not up to you to babysit them, and the consequences to their actions are their own. It sounds like you've been more than patient with them already.
  4. We actually spell it "Gougle" on this side of the pond.
  5. Cheers for pointing that out, I hadn't seen that. Glad it hasn't come up yet or I would've been cheating!
  6. FAQ says you can use Curseling's ability to recast endless spells. Not sure how that works in practice re: models, though. In the case of the Skaven one, though, I don't think you can cast it as the Curseling is not a Skaventide Wizard. Same goes for a load of spells that say pick a friendly Idoneth/Gloomspite etc etc unit. "Q: Can a Curseling, having unbound an endless spell, use the Vessel of Chaos ability to attempt to cast that endless spell? A: Yes." https://whc-cdn.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/age_of_sigmar_disciples_of_tzeentch_designers_commentary_en-1.pdf
  7. I'd go with the Enlightened. The flamers fall over to a stiff breeze and their damage output is really inconsistent.
  8. Yeah, there's not been much in the way of credible rumours. They have appeared as their own faction in one of the MP short stories - I don't think any non-playable factions appeared in any of those, which might make it a decent indication that they're coming - and some of the more recent artwork has more barbarian-looking folks that could be Darkoath.
  9. True, but I think you should still take them if you need them. Otherwise you're counting on your opponent bringing the ones you need, and attempting to cast them. The other side of that is that if you let your opponent cast the spell, it generates points for summoning, and depending on the spell, you might be able to control it yourself if you lose the roll-off for battleround or opt to go second.
  10. Yeah, geminids look strong! What's the mark? Can't see it on the warscroll - unless I'm looking at an out-of-date one - or is it somewhere else?
  11. Anyone tried any of the endless spells in their StD lists yet? The jaws and gravetide both nerf bravery, so they could go in that bravery-bomb list, and the pendulum would be a great source of mortal wounds to break up the tarpits when warriors run into another tanky unit.
  12. 20 - you get 2 Blue Horror Points for every Pink Horror that dies. You can trade in 10 Blue Horror Points for a unit of 10 Blue Horrors.
  13. Here's the link to the Community page with the downloads - points costs are at the end, Sayl/Nightmaw are 200pts https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/06/29/29th-june-a-monster-update-from-forge-worldfw-homepage-post-1/
  14. On a more positive note, what endless spells do you folks think will work best in an StD list? I'm going to go for the Orbs, Pendulum and Shackles (probably not all at once though!) The debuff from the orbs will help us win those grindy matches and attrition-out our opponents, particularly at either end of the spectrum. It'll level the playing field against elite units, and remove the advantages of the larger units like skeles that get progressively better buffs for larger unit sizes. Warriors are great at pinnging units in place but suck at doing any damage, throwing down a pendulum to slice through an engaged unit will help tip the odds in our favour.
  15. Doesn't look like the Manticore Lord is getting any updates - not much changed at all in the errata, for StD actually. Not even the poor Darkoath Warqueen got an update, and her command ability is just a worse version of one of the new generic ones :s
  16. I feel your pain - I bought the Galrauch model the week before they changed the Warscroll to fit only with Grand Alliance: Chaos. The abilities for GA:Chaos are so bad compared to Tzeentch or StD he still hasn't hit the table yet ?
  17. Just play in the realm of beasts and use it as a neutral monster - not the best solution, but at least it'll hit the table that way!
  18. Not exactly much to go on but there was also at least 1 MalPo story featuring Darkoath as quite distinct from anything we've already got models/rules for.
  19. Glaivewraith Stalkers Nagash has a twisted sense of justice, and each member of the Nighthaunt is shaped to reflect their crimes in a previous life. The Glaivewraith Stalkers were those who hunted men for sport and pleasure – now, they still work as huntsmen, drifting slowly and unstoppably towards their quarry, pursuing them for months (or even years!) if they have to. From the initial spoiler for Nighthaunt https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/05/14/14th-may-faction-focus-nighthauntgw-homepage-post-3/ So more likely horses than Skaven. Edit: sorry, quote went weird.
  20. Pics from the finished marauders and the wip shrine & cav (c+can welcome)
  21. A long-delayed bit of background on the marauders. The intention is for the background to be presented from the point of view of a scribe captured from Tim's (@theslowcentury) Freeguild army during our big MP rumble a month or two ago. Actually got some painting progress to post this afternoon, too, so I'll try and get some decent photos later. Date: ??? Journal Entry 1 After several weeks with the tribe as their prisoner, I have been released of my bonds and allowed the freedom of their camp. I no longer expect to be sacrificed to their savage gods, but their intention for me remains unclear. Whilst I still have my wits – and my life – I have resolved to study and records what I can of these people. Date:??? Journal Entry 2 Ethnography and Origins My captors have no specific term for their own tribe and seem confused by the question itself, as if they have little knowledge of other similar tribal groups. For simplicity, I have dubbed them the ‘Frost Axe Tribe’, for their use of a supernaturally-imbued form of ice in their weaponry. The Frost Axes are mostly human, although the tribe is welcoming of mutants of all kinds, with varieties familiar horned and cloven-hooved humanoids the most commonplace. The society seems typically hierarchical, but my efforts to understand the complex weave of interactions have been fruitless. At times, their equestrian class – ‘knight’ is too grand a word for these horsemen – seem to be the dominant caste, at others it is the warrior-women and at others, their primitive priesthood. There is no discernible pattern to these shifts, however. There is no consistency, as you would expect if the changes were tied to some constant like the changing seasons, nor do the shifts follow significant events. Unchanged by the unstable hierarchies is the leadership of the tribe. Discussions with the elder members of the tribe revealed that the current Chieftess is comparatively new, a warqueen by the name of Lissandra that ascended to the position by defeating the previous Chieftan. The elders would not be pressed to divulge the nature of the contest that had ousted Lissandra’s predecessor. When asked, the elders were either wide-eyed with fear, or wore sly, mischievous grins, as if party to some amusing secret. Lissandra has led the Frost Axes out of their homelands in Ghur through a realmgate that had been buried in an ancient ruined city on the edge of their traditional dominion. Now in Shyish, the tribe has waged war alongside a larger warhost – likely the same army that decimate my compatriots – but typically travels and fights alone. The Frost Axes are eager to return home, but will not defy the will of their fearsome Chieftess. Date: ??? Journal Entry 3 Religion The Frost Axes worship a vast pantheon of gods covering every facet of their daily lives. From my studies, however, I would hypothesise that these deities are all simply different iterations of the Chaos god known to us as Tzeentch. Their war-god Kerus, for example, favours cunning over brute force; their thunder god, Zygmun takes the form of an enormous bird; the mother goddess, Choi, protects their secrets and spreads lies amongst their enemies; Irtuk, the artisan, is more bookworm than blacksmith, imbuing his creations with powerful spells. The tribe collect the skulls of their enemies in the same fashion as the bloodthirsty reavers of Aqshy. Unlike those terrifying cannibals, it is not the skull itself or the blood that is shed that is important, but the act of decapitation: the priests dismember their captives and interpret the pained writhing and thrashing for good or ill omens. Indeed, there are innumerable diviners in the Frost Axe warhost: haruspex, scryers, bone-readers and augurs. The last-named, in particular, are prized by the tribe, as birds of all kinds are considered sacred vessels of their avian gods.
  22. Well, I've gone and ordered that executioner-looking chap from Avatars of War only to realise whilst browsing the Shadespire thread that I could've just de-Khorned two of the guys from the Bloodreavers gang instead... So what I'll probably end up doing is using THEM for the shrine, and the new dude from AoW as an extra Darkoath Warchief, or a unit champion for the marauders...
  23. A few more pics of the shrine. It'll be a fiddle, but I'm tempted to move the totem back, put the chopping block back in, and fill the recessed bit with a load of skulls. Ideas/thoughts anyone?
  24. Paint what you want, mate - we can fudge the rules to get your new toys on the battlefield! It's supposed to be narrative-based, so there's no worries about playing with asymmetric forces. I was going to suggest a few skirmish games once we've all got a few bits painted. Some trolls and a dude to lead them would probably do the trick for that? Wyvern might be a tad OTT for a skirmish game, but we can figure something out - even if he ends up being your only dude.
  25. Nice going, Lew! Those old models have so much character!
