NoTurtlesAllowed
The second list is what I would go with. The two Big Baddies are a tough combo and the battalions are ace. Its a time tested list that does very well
Shorewood
The 2nd one is definitely the better of the two.
Shorewood
I always found 10 dryads to not be worth their points (20 of course with that armor bonus), so perhaps you should consider dropping them for for Tree Revenants and a better bid? Zhorphorus
Thanks for all the responses! I think I'll definitely go for the second build - anyone have any ideas on how it can be improved or maybe what items/spells would be better? Many thanks!! Shorewood
Regrowth will be a key spell in keeping your big guys alive and kicking but. Now a common tactic is to have it on the branchwych who just hangs back out of unbind range/out of line of sight casting it, but the branchwych is not the most durable of models so there is a good argument to be made with having that spell on the treelord ancient. If you do not put regrowth on the ancient I would give him verdent blessing as it gives him a 2nd way to put down a wyldwood in case he wiffs his 4+ roll, and getting wyldwoods down is critical to the army.
