'Competitive' Disciples of Tzeentch

341 posts in this topic

So I think its about time we get one of these threads started for Newest army to AoS.

I want to build a good all arounder with the main body, a battalion, being Disciples of Tzeentch.

From what i have seen is so far

Daemons have great battalions, solid battle line with pink horrors, and great heroes.

Arcanites have freaking Tzaangors which are amazing in all their forms,  ok battalions, and the heroes are pretty solid.

So how about we work together and bring some Change to the mortal realms

Good idea, I'm in the same boat, toying with 1k, since that's always a manageable starting point for me.

I'm not a Tzeentch player, and my wife's Tzeentch book isn't in front of me atm.

But here's a start to this thread. (The Command Traits/Items are randomly picked, not sure which are powerful).

List 1: 1K Daemons

Allegiance: Tzeentch

Leaders
Herald Of Tzeentch On Burning Chariot (200)
- General
- Staff of Change
- Trait: Incorporeal Form - Tzeentch Daemon Hero
- Artefact: Pyrofyre Stave
Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch (120)

Battleline
10 x Pink Horrors Of Tzeentch (140)
10 x Pink Horrors Of Tzeentch (140)

Units
10 x Blue Horrors Of Tzeentch (50)
6 x Tzaangor Skyfires (320)

Total: 970/2000

List 2: 1K Arcanites

Allegiance: Chaos

Leaders
Tzaangor Shaman (120)
- General
- Trait: Incorporeal Form - Tzeentch Daemon Hero
- Artefact: Souldraught

Battleline
30 x Tzaangors (540)
- 3x Pair of Savage Blades
- 6x Savage Greatblade
- 6x Savage Blade & Arcamote Shield
10 x Kairic Acolytes (140)

Units
3 x Tzaangor Skyfires (160)

Total: 960/2000

(Could make room for a Gaunt Summoner here, strong spell).

I feel that the 2k lists get to start adding more Skyfires, Lord of Change, and components to form the battalions.

So I'm trying to make Overseer's fate twister work. Just seems so good to control you dice to that degree. Here is my first attempt at it. It's nice that Kairos has the key word Lord of Change in his profile .

- Staff of Change
The Blue Scribes (120)
The Changeling (140)

- Staff of Change
- Trait: Magical Supremacy - Tzeentch Daemon Hero
Kairos Fateweaver (340)
Ogroid Thaumaturge (160)

Battleline
1 x Burning Chariots Of Tzeentch (160)
-  Tzeentch Daemon Battleline (Herald on Chariot General)
1 x Burning Chariots Of Tzeentch (160)
-  Tzeentch Daemon Battleline (Herald on Chariot General)
1 x Burning Chariots Of Tzeentch (160)
-  Tzeentch Daemon Battleline (Herald on Chariot General)
1 x Burning Chariots Of Tzeentch (160)
-  Tzeentch Daemon Battleline (Herald on Chariot General)

Units
10 x Blue Horrors Of Tzeentch (50)

Battalions
Overseer's Fate-twisters (80)

Scenery
Balewind Vortex (100)

Total: 1990/2000

I am toying around with the idea of building my collection around the cult of the transient form with a base built around a full 30 Tzaangors with two 20 acolyte units and a solid 6 Skyfyres to hangout with two Shaman.  The third of the arcanites cabal would be a magister to tag along the foot sluggers.

I'm still caught up with the idea of a balewind vortex for the gaunt summoner on foot which just seemso awesome for 200 pts. What is everyone else's opinion of this?

@Drillz Thats not how it works Im afraid. Lord of Change in normal font is a Lord of Change, the unit. Lord of Change in bold is a keyword requirement. Just like the Horror Hero part of the same battalion means any unit with those Keywords.

In regards to the list itself. A lot of the scenarios are based on having more units near an objective then the opponent.  You've 30 models total. Less then some peoples single units. You could struggle to win those games.

My turn! Not sure how competitive this will be but it fits in all the stuff I want. Mainly a beefy unit of Tzaangors mixed with the awesomeness of daemon units.

Fairly straightforward troll tactics. Swap what needs to be swapped and using the best debuff in the game to really mess with those hit buffed deathstar units. And on LoC built for melee while the other one shoots from the back.

@Soulshade you are right boss i just found it in the FAQ

Quote

Q: How do you determine what models and units make up a warscroll battalion? When is it based on a keyword and when is it a unit name?

A: When a warscroll battalion is referring to a keyword,it appears in Keyword Bold. Otherwise, it is referring to the name of a unit.

woot i get more horrors. The big thing that i wanted to do with the list is cast as many D6 mortal wound spells as possible back to the drawing board. Im getting the feeling i wont beable to field this battalion competitively.

I'm keeping an eye out here. I have The Silver Tower, and always had a love for Tzeentch (I played mono-Tzeentch WoC since 6E). I have some stuff I can splash in, like a LoC. I also doubled the Silver Tower baddies I had.

Hmm who would get the balewind and why?

I would, because I like the idea of a Gaunts Summoner being able to use his spells at such a long range, and summoning daemons onto enemy objectives.

So I just got 2 boxes of tzaangor 1 sky fire box 2 tzaangor shaman and a loc on the way. Since it seems tzaangor have the edge unit wise of daemons but daemons have better battalions like the change host

Has anyone looked into the competitiveness of mortals running fatesworn with tzeentch allegiance?

If you can make it small enough can you fit in skyfires+shaman?

To further this,  has anyone looked into taking tzeentch as chaos allegiance ? +1 on skyfires with shaman for +2 means d3 mortal wounds on a 4+...

Just curious since I'm new and considering Tzeentch, do you feel comfortable with Pink Horrors in units of 10? Are they durable enough at that number for their job?

Chaos allegiance only provides +1 in the combat phase so its pretty useless with Tzeentch (considering the potential of destiny dice).

I would rather use smaller units of pink horrors, as they give you the opportunitty to castillo more spells (combine them with a horror hero and a Lord of Change.

With marauders or Chaos Spawn as 60 point options, yes you can make it small enough.

They are probably meaning the Lord of War ability which gives +1 to hit in combat & shooting

I had forgotten about that ability. Considering it that way it is a great idea to include skyfires in your chaos armies.

I have already got six of them, and ir could be quite interesting yo combine them with my Bloodbound army for extra mortal wounds.

Thank you for unleashing the beast Terry.

Toying with this as a possibility going off what I own currently. Will give what seems to me as a mobile shooty force getting off a fair load of spells a turn.

Bear in mind I am fairly new to AoS so any CC is always welcome. :)

Any opinions on this list?

Extra points for filler at the end.

- Artefact: Phantasmal Weapons
Tzaangor Shaman (120)
Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch (120)

3 x Tzaangor Skyfires (160)
Battalions
Tzaangor Coven (40)

Any ideas to fill this list.

Does it need more magic, more bodies, better fighty stuff?

What about additional heroes for 3-places-of-power.

I think 30 Tzaangors are a bit much. You'll almost never get them all into combat. Unless you just really want more bodies

I'd add at least 3 more skyfires in, I've had lots of success so far with a unit of 9, agreed with above poster not sure you need 30 tzangors but it is nice :)

You dont need to. Only the ones with great blades. The others are extra wounds IMO. ?
