Summoning part of a unit

Oppenheimer

Question

In the last two battle tomes, Sylvaneth and Tzeentch you can summon part of a unit. Branchwraiths and Alarielle can summon 2d6 Dryads and the The Ogroid Thaumaturge has a summon as part of its spell but it only set up 1d6 of a unit.

How many reinforcement points would either of these summons cost? If you only summoned 2 Dryads would you have to pay for 10? What if you summoned 11? Wild you have to pay for 20? If you rolled 11 could you only field 10?

Due to this it seems like these spells seem like they don't work with matched play very well. Why are they being added in the must recent books?

So to answer your question. Yes as it stands you would have to pay full points depending what "threshhold" your in (1-10,, 11 - 20, 21-30 etc)

As mentioned these abilities were made before matched play.

and personally i hope they dont change them. The work great for the other forms of play.

If matched play needs an ammendment then a external rule can be made rather than meddling with warscrolls and messing them up for not matched play players. that way everyones happy

But for now atleast thats what your stuck with.

Fingers crossed for GHB2

On the same train of thoughts what about when a pink horrors split. If a single Pink Horror dies and splits in to two Blues in the Hero phase, then another PH dies in the shooting phase and splits in to two more BHs do you pay for the units twice? The rules say that you can add to a unit of BHs in 6" so would the second lot count as the same unit.

Speaking to a long time Tzeentch player we have agreed in our games he can pay for BHs and Brimstones before hand and use them up as he loses pinks. Obviously thats just our take on it.

You forgot the restrictions on starting size... [emoji6]

But that's actually a pretty smart house rule. [emoji106]

Worth mentioning that the Matched Play rules allow you to reduce the number of models summoned, so if you roll "11" for the number of Dryads you could just summon 10 instead.

But yeah, as it stands if you want to summon 2, you pay for 10. I don't imagine many Sylvaneth players will bother with summoning at all, given how little they have access to. In the case of Alarielle, you can choose a lower result on her Soul Amphorae table, so I pretty much assume every matched player is just going to use the first result every time — healing every Sylvaneth model within 30" for D3 wounds.

The matched play rules for summoning really need re-working.
