They both have great defensive capabilities but I'm leaning towards the necrosphinx bc how durable stonehorns are... Squirrelmaster Posted January 13, 2017 Share Posted January 13, 2017 I prefer the Necrosphinx, because I like the model more and my army is "Tomb Kings" themed. For competitive play, I'd have to say the Mourngul is more points-effective, in almost every respect. To the point where many players regard it as overpowered, and further proof that Forgeworld should not be allowed to write rules. I think the Necrosphinx is reasonably well balanced, its biggest strengths are speed and hitting power, not durability. Some armies will struggle to deal with it more than others, it is quite specialised in an anti-armour role. I'm not sure how long either of them will be supported for, given that one is Forgeworld and the other is out-of-production compendium, but if I had to guess, I'd say the Mourngul is more likely to stick around for the General's Handbook MkII (whenever that comes out). David Griffin Posted January 13, 2017 Share Posted January 13, 2017 I'm currently having the same dilemma. I love my Sphinx and the offensive power it brings to the table. It's nice knowing you have a model that can fairly regularly one shot enemy monsters/heroes. The Mourngul on the other hand is relatively weaker on offense - its attacks scale down fairly quickly - but has great durability, regeneration, and area debuff. I'm not sure one is overwhelmingly better than the other. The Mourngul is very much in vogue right now though. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
LJ26 Posted January 13, 2017 Author Share Posted January 13, 2017 Yea I had a mourngul written in my list for 2k but I acquired a necrosphinx off the random. I really want to play it but the mournguls area debuff is awesome to retreat out of combat and get close to to other combats and still affect them.
