Got another couple of hours done on this guy tonight. I've managed to get the gold, skin and parchment done; although I feel I may have rushed the skin a little. We'll have to see how it looks once the Fire has been done.

Fire, the staff and some touch ups are left. I'm thinking of adding a few Tzeentch-y symbols to the tabard too, to help break up the yellow a bit.

Don't look too closely, but here's some pics.

Straps and lining of the robe.

It looks a lot, but it's fairly simple:

Kantor Blue

Highlighted with glazes of 50:50 Kantor Blue:Altdorf Guard Blue on the upper flats

Edged with Altdorf Guard Blue (thick edge highlight)

Edged with 50:50 Altdorf Guard Blue:Fenrisian Grey (thin edge highlight)

Spot highlights of 50:50 previous mix:White

HI've started working on the Ogroid today. I've decided to go for a lighter blue for the skin compared the the 'eavy metal team. The armour is going to be dark like the rest of my Tzeentch, and I'm hoping the skin colour, which will be similar to to the Blue Horrors, will be almost a tester for the lord of change.

Not much to see at the moment. The skin has been based in Alaitoc Blue, the tattoos in Sotek Green. These will be highlighted up in the same way as the vortexes I've done in the past. The chest, neck and face have all be coated in Fenrisian Grey and then the entire skin has been washed in watered down (with medium) Drakenhof Nightshade. I've then gone back and put pure Nightshade in the muscle recesses.

The armour has been painted Kantor Blue, then washed in 50:50 Kantor:Black, and the gold hasn't been given a first coat of Retributer Gold.

The robes have also been started. Based in 50:50 Averland Sunset:Yriel Yellow, and wash in Sepia.

Small update - skin area highlighted, and tattoos higlighted up to Blue Horror.  The entire skin and tattoo has then been glazed with Guilliman Blue, and the tattoos have been re-highlighted with Blue Horror.

I'm not sure about this model so far.  The skin needs shading a fair bit, which may improve it.  We'll see.

Thanks, but I think I'm going to re do the skin tone.  I think my problem is that I've tried to paint the model as if it were a 'regular' size, pink horror etc....  I've also rushed it.  I've also tried to do most of the tattoo detail before the skin, which I think was a mistake.  Also, the tattoos aren't bright enough.

I've got a few choices:

  • Change the skin colour - maybe go Fenrisian Grey all over to match the Gaunt Summoner, Tzaangor etc... and keep the tattoos darker (sotek green with a bit of highlight).
  • Keep the skin colour as it is - but done better, with stronger shadows.  But also change the tattoo colour to something like orange.  It'd make it stand out, but it'd be a colour that doesn't exist in the rest of my Tzeentch force.
  • Make the skin darker - maybe even following the 'eavy metal scheme with Kantor Blue fading to Black.  This should allow the tattoos to stand out a bit, but the armour is Kantor Blue, so it might be a bit samey.

Any ideas anyone?

I'd say option two. You have orange with the flames on some of your models and the brimstone horrors. Maybe change the flames coming from the staff to match as well and throw a cheeky brimstone onto his base to tie it all together?

Alternately a Green flame from the skull, the back is definitely "flat" appearing as there appears to have little color variation.

I went the route of a similar color scheme to the larger Lord of Change for the dark blue on the back to ulthuan Grey on the chest/face.

Duncan has a good example of the Runes that he has up on Warhammer.tv that I can recommend.

So I've done done t skin again from scratch and I'm much happier with it. I've also done the chest and face (still need the eyes and teeth doing).

I've decided to still with blue tattoos, but started at Temple Guard Blue to make it brighter. I think it works.

So when's the golden demon? Great work as ever.

Hardly.

Here's a decent pic of the Ogroid I managed to take.

Next up, I'm going to paint something a bit different.  My wife and I have started playing Silver Tower again, and I thought I'd paint the model she's currently using - the Stormcast Eternal...

Fine work as always :)

Stormcast sounds interesting too, going for the golden look or something different?

Thank you.  I'm going to go for the golden look.  I want to practise my golden armour because I've just been given the Triumvirate of the Imperium to paint - something I've been wanting to paint for a while.

  • 9 months later...

Hi everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything for this thread.

I got bored of painting Tzeentch, and wasn’t getting any games of AoS in to keep me invigorated to paint more. I switched to Shadespire for a while, and I’ve then been painting the odd single model. Here are some images of the Soulscryer I painted a month or so ago.

Anyway, with AoS 2.0 Boeing released, I’ve decided to jump back in, this time playing Stormcast. This is mainly because of a Stormcast painting competition my local Warhammer store ran (to get rid of his old Starter liberators!). I really enjoyed painting the Soulscryer, and like the entire Deepkin range, but I was looking for a smaller model count force that can get me back into the game.

I didn’t want to paint my Stormcast gold, and when I looked around, I didn’t see many images from the Anvils of the Heldenhammer. That was perfect as I’d recently found a cool black recipe that I wanted to try out.

Here’s the results of my test:

Hope you like the scheme. It’s going to be slow progress, but bare with me.
