After RAW (Rules As Written) it is not possible anymore to default back to Grand Alliance abilities, like you could in the previous edition.

As this is heavily disputed and seems rather odd, I'd advise you to wait for about a week for a definitive answer.

One of the two big FAQ updates is coming out this month and will most likely be released next week.

Then Taking darkling covens units as battelines and still taking generic order artefacts and command traits? That's not clear to me.

No. It's covered in the last FAQs
