terrainguy
I’ve enjoyed being inspired by so many of your works, I figured it was time to start my own painting log. In general I just paint what strikes my fancy. I’m rarely concerned with performance on the table, because I play very infrequently. Generally I just try to get a good solid paint job, nothing too fancy. I’ll kick off with my Khorne. I paint them more than most my other stuff. Anyway, hope you enjoy! Redking
Nice stuff. Your Slaughterpriests are very well done and I like your Bloodletter banner. Look forward to seeing more.
syph0n
Great work. Always envious to see a decent sized force painted as I know it's no mean feat. One question though, why the blue rims? I love all the paintwork and can't figure out why you went with blue. Feels at odds to me vs both the overall painting quality, but particularly a Khorne army! Antonio Rodrigues
Hi, amazing work, really solid paintjob as you said! Congrats! But I'm with syph0n here: sorry for the comment, but the blue rims detract a little bit for the very good painting, they draw the eye to them and took the attention from the minis... Gray or a neutral brown/beige would look better IMHO... Cheers AJ

One question though, why the blue rims? I love all the paintwork and can't figure out why you went with blue. Feels at odds to me vs both the overall painting quality, but particularly a Khorne army! The base rims ended up what they are because of my color scheme, so bear with me for a bit of background. My Khorne is envisioned as part of Archaon's horde. (Largely theoretical at this point aside from some painted Kairic Acolytes). Hence the black armor. Unit champions get red helmets and characters actually get to be in all red. I based them in some traditional meadow green, one to provide some contrast for the black armor to stand out on, and two because I like to imagine Chaos attacking some place pure and pristine. Even after basing them, I felt that the black rims and giant chunks of black armor still all sort of just blended together and got lost on the battlefield. Especially since a lot of battlefields have a tendency to be pretty subdued color palettes. I went through several colorful, but not as vibrant, tests for the base rims. But they all just felt like my guys were too dark. And they got lost on many battlefields. My accent color for the armor is the turquoise color (you can see it scattered around on tongues, talismans, loinclothes, etc). So I painted the base rims in the accent color. And I loved the effect! On the battlefield my little black-armored madmen pop out from the background, it grabs the accent color, and generally just makes the whole army more colorful. I tend to be a fan of big vibrant colors for my fantasy armies, and I've never been much for trying to make them realistic or blend into terrain. So for me, the rims help accomplish those goals. I've painted my base rims various colors for years and they always meet with mixed reactions. I enjoy them, so I keep doing it, but totally get that it's not for everyone. syph0n
Yeah that's as valid a reason as any! It's not a colour I'd use, but if it looks good in play, and that's the aim, that's all good.
terrainguy
So little focus...First I got distracted by assembling the Soul Wars box. So pretty. (No pics because we’ve all seen plenty of grey Soul Wars already. ? But all the Nighthaunt inspired this nonsense... Still alot of work to go, but progress. Then I dropped by our local Warhammer store and found out the AoS campaign they are starting had a serious lack of Destruction. So I decided it was time for my Mommas Boyz orcs and goblins to finally join the brave new world. Rebasing is zero entertainment. Plus, I’m still working on Khorne for the Path to Glory campaign I’m going to be playing with my friends. I feel like a hobby squirrel. Shiny. Shiny. Shiny. syph0n
Woah that's a lot of terrain. I had wondered where your name came from! ? I found rebasing to be good therapy, but the painting of the stones/sand to be mind numbing! Good luck.

Nice mod. Unfortunately the chapel and watchtower are no longer available. It would be nice if they would reprint some of that stuff. Great work on all of the terrain. terrainguy
Painted a Grot Warboss on Squig this past weekend. He’s from the early days of GW and Forgeworld messing with Finecast and I can’t tell if he is a wretched cast or if the sculptor just got rushed. So much destroyed, missing, and incoherent detail! In the end, I just got him to “good enough” and called him done, rather than fight the model. He’ll get his base with the rest of the squigs I’m rebasing. Also started some hoppers and stray squigs to round out my units to AoS squad sizes.

I have a vague recollection of it being in an ancient blister labeled "squiggly beasts", and I figured it would be a fun and weird spider squig. terrainguy
Was fortunate enough to get a game in over the weekend. 2k of Khorne v craven “Free” People. ? We both love infantry and had massive lines of soldiers ready to square off. He would go on the shattered my left flank with gunfire. Whereas an Incandescent Skarbrand and a host of Bloodreavers would shatter his. Our armies then pinwheeled to fight the length of the board. Unfortunately, going the length was detrimental to my footbound madmen under disciplined ranks of gunfire. In the end my Aspiring Champion stood alone against a horde of halberd users. Khorne cares not from where the blood flows!
Kramer
Nice report! Always love the look of hordes facing off. Also this chap really wants the glory doesn’t he ?

terrainguy
Finished up my warboss on great squig. The sculpt/cast quality was a pain, but I’m fairly happy how he turned out. Part of my rebasing project is also bringing some of my paint jobs up to better standards. I painted this some 10+ years ago. At the time he was to a standard I considered done. With many of the elements at the level I considered my best.Since he’s one of my favorite models of all time I was excited to get him fixed up proper. Here he is all finished. I’m quite happy with how he came out. He’s now a proper leader for my gobbo horde!
terrainguy
Squigs are done! Although I’m a bit frustrated as I seem to have misplaced one. ? Like the shaman, the rebasing turned into a complete fixup, bringing them up to a better level of quality. I’m quite happy with them! Next up is a batch of 10 herders to lead the motley mob of pumpkins.
terrainguy
Finished up the herders last night. Took a quick snap. Moving on to my not-Skarsnik, aka Grot Warboss with Giant Cave Squig.
syph0n
Looking really good. The paint upgrade is quite stark. The work before would've made many happy, but the additional highlights make a world of difference.

It’s also been fun seeing where I was as a painter years ago compared to now. It’s taking more time than just rebasing, but it’s been well worth it so far. Just gonna take awhile to get through my 8000 or so points of old O&G!? 3 hours ago, Slave2Chaos said: @terrainguy how did you do the orange on your squigs? White primer, Fire Dragon Bright, Fuegan orange shade, reclaim highlights with Fire Dragon and clean up shadows with Troll Slayer (if needed), then final highlight with P3 Heartfire, then a shade of Casandora Yellow to tighten everything up. Finished up my warboss! Took a couple quick snaps at the painting table. I always loved the new Skarsnik model but am not a fan of the new Gobbla. Fortunately, I love (and had) the old version. So I combined the two and got a warboss with great cave squig that I love!
terrainguy
Work begins! I had to do up his base before gluing him on to paint, so that I could get to everything on the base.

The picture being top down makes the base appear deceptively smaller than it is, so it provides a pretty stable base. I also made sure its main bulk is also pretty much level with the anchor point so it pulls downward instead being a big mass perched up high above the anchor waiting for a bump to push it one way or another.
