Hinterlands: Skirmish Campaigns in the Mortal Realms

Greetings everyone, I have something to share with you all today which is very special to me as I have put a lot of work into this. I present my gaming supplement for Age of Sigmar titled:

Hinterlands: Skirmish Campaigns in the Mortal Realms - Version 1

Here are some screenshots of what to expect:

Hinterlands---Book-Thumbnails.jpg

This is a supplement to play narrative skirmish games in Age of Sigmar, and I've tried to make it look like the real deal.

Enclosed you will find not one, but two campaign systems outlined. The first (titled 'The Hinterlands Campaign') is akin to Mordheim or Frostgrave. Players can create a Warband of a dozen models and battle it out for treasure, gaining skills and experience but also running the risk of injury and death on the way.

The rules for the Hinterlands Campaign are 4 pages long. Just like the core rules. This is not meant to be Mordheim transplanted into AoS, but a skirmish system that embraces everything I love about Age of Sigmar. You'll find Battletraits, Artefacts, and Time of War rules all have a place in the system.

On top of that, the book also introduces a second way to play; the Realm Master Campaign.

The Realm Master Campaign is an additional 2 pages of rules (plus a custom battleplan to set your imagination off) and details how to run an RPG set in the Mortal Realms. It is akin to D&D or Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, but is a simple system set firmly in Age of Sigmar at the same time.

I would love to know your feedback and thoughts on the rules contained. And if you want to use them, please do! This is what they are here for! :)

I plan to work on this book further by adding in a hobby section with example Warbands and also a Warband Roster to help manage your games. If you have any more ideas please let me know.

Enjoy! :D

Sam I've already read it and proposed it to my gaming group, great job!

Hey Dez, that's fantastic to hear! And do let me know how you get on, no doubt you'll want to change some rules either due to preference or because they don't quite work. I am all ears to improving this :-) Also, I just love to see any warbands you guys create for this. :)

Very well-presented, it looks like an official supplement, and definitely has a feel of ye olde Mordheim. I think I'll be taking this down the local store and trying a game or two of it. :)

Would you be okay with us doing Battle Reports with it on our Youtube channel? We're interested in trying it out, and possibly doing a campaign series with it as the progression seems to be pretty cool.

Of course! I would be honoured if you did, and thrilled to give your videos a watch. Don't be shy to change any rules you think don't work or just don't suit your style :) I look forward to seeing anything you do with this.

I really like these rules a ton I am so thankful you made them! I may add a knockdown mechanic though!

When a model reaches 0 wounds it is knocked down and drops all treasure tokens within 2". Place a Marker next to the model or lay it down on it's side to represent it's new condition. A model will try to recover at the end of every battleshock phase by rolling a D6. on a result of a 6+ the model regains a single wound and is stood up returning to action as normal.

A model can attack a knocked down model gaining +2 modifiers to all wound and to hit rolls. If a knocked down model takes any wounds it is out of action.

If a model rolls a 6+ to wound that reduces a model to 0 wounds it is not knocked down and is considered slain immediately.

It looks like a great addition :) I did consider adding in a Necromunda/Mordheim style pinned/down/out-of-action style system but decided not to to keep the deviations from the core AoS rules to as few as possible. I think one neat idea might be to include a "House Rules" section like the GHB does and include great additions like this in there. Thanks for the input!

I'm going to be running this with the remainder of our ongoing narrative campaign - thanks for taking the time to come up with a cool system. Smaller, narrative-driven RPG Elements + AOS is a match made in heaven~

Very excited to try this out!  Suggest that you also post to the forums as I had a hard time finding this even though I was looking for it.  Saw the post on Dakka but couldn't find it where I was expecting it.

Made an account just for this, I am so excited to try it out this weekend. It was the final thing that encouraged me to finally take the plunge and buy models.

If I actually get to play it next weekend I'll make sure I post up a battle report.

THIS IS ALL KINDS OF EPIC! I love it!!!

Thanks man, RAW was inspirational for me to see on Twitter. I'm going to try and make it to the next one - if you want to incorporate any rules feel free to do so!

Good idea, I hadn't thought of putting it in the forums area too. Thanks for the kind words too :-)

Oh, do share the report please if you get the chance. I would love to hear how it goes!

Really good, can tell you put in a lot of work. Bit miffed as I have been writing something similar with far less effort and its put me to shame haha!

This is fantastic! Strikes me as a much better jumping on point for new comers with its low model count than Path to Glory. I'm definitely going to try and get a group going with this supplement.

Amazing stuff, I should really start paying attention to this site outside of the forum! :o

I've only had a chance to skim though the (fantastic looking) document, but will read it in full when I'm on the tube tomorrow. Let me know if you need any feedback or playtesting doing. :)

I hope your supplement somehow gets featured on the warhammer community website.

Thanks, and yes, I would love that! :P

It's one of the things that spurred me on to get mine finished as I could see lots of people tapping into the same idea. If you've got anything you would change, let me know!

I hope you manage to do so. It's these comments that make me the happiest to see, so let me know if it takes off! :)

Great stuff!

I was also starting to play with these kind of ideas, but nothing as good as this!!

Some things I was implementing; ramdom pools of loot drops from enemy units (going from nothing, to one use equipment as those following), Healing Potions with 1d3 or 1d6 healing power to use on a Hero Phase, +1 Venom to be applied to a weapon for a given combat to be decided at the start of such given combat.

Will be using this for sure, to continue my narrative ongoing campaign play with my nephew,  thanks a lot!

Awesome idea! This is for the Realm Master Campaign section? I did make a whole handful of potions with one use effects originally. They didn't make it into this cut but I wanted to add them into a later source book. :)

Hi! Thanks!

Yes, those are for the Realm Master Campaign section.
I have some more items but not many. I can send them to you, but there aren't many.

You should add them to a source book sure! Again thanks for this, great stuff!
