    The Hag!

    By Eevika

The Troggoth Hag is definitely a piece I believe every Troggoth army needs. It's amazing as a model and amazing on the table. I rarely do such detailed eyes and faces but when working on a model that is the centrepiece of your army you want to spend some extra time just to make it special. This is surely the best work I have ever done on a models face and I think there is just a lot of character and emotion on the model.  My smaller Troggoths are just green and blue but for t

Lessons from Beta Testing

While scheduling caused a few more delays we eventually lined up two Beta Test games.  Both would be 1K with an emphasis on “the basics”. The first match was Beastclaw Raiders versus Nurgle. A simple two objective battleplan with minimal terrain did mean this was a bit of a race forward and smash each other in the face style match-up, though Gutrot Spume and the PBKs in the Slime Fleet did add a little flavor.  Mostly what this one did was serve as proof of concept. Our secon

Technical Difficulties

Of course at the time “everyone” was trying to by webcams to videoconference into work or for their kid’s remote learning.  My original plan had been to use GoPro cameras as then, when hopefully the need for a Gaming Cage was no longer present, they’d have other uses.  Unfortunately I ended up in a software update loop that hours with their Service Center couldn’t fix (basically it required a software update but until the software was updated it wouldn’t let me into the program I needed to get i

Designing & Building the Gaming Cage

We were in the middle of a Khorne-centric narrative cycle when the lock down started that we were using in part to learn some new armies that we might take to a friendly small tournament (The Battle in the Barn) between our local gaming group and another gaming group an hour or two down Route 90.   Like a lot of people our initial perspective was to take a wait and see approach while focusing on the hobby side of the game in the interim. As it became more and more likely that our small tour

Been a While. New Stuff!

I know it's been a bit, but here we are. Covid, Trump, the Cleveland Browns. It's all evil and distracts me from the hobby.  I've made progress. I'm over 1500 points now!!! I clearly will need to go back and add dark brown lines between the bones, but that's a thing to do to the whole army at once later on. For now, here we are.   Crawler and Big Guy ready.

At the walls of Knossus

A story of a siege The triple walls of Knossus have stood inviolate for centuries. During the long age when Sigmar retreated behind the gates of his realm and plotted his mighty counterstroke against the Dark Gods, Knossus survived, ensconced behind its great barriers. They are permanent fixtures in the landscape of Chamon, as enduring as any mountain. I have been told that the outermost wall has only been breached twice since its construction. The third wall, the highest and mightiest, has n

Anvil of Apotheosis: DoK Heroine!

Anvil of Apotheosis, also known as the one thing that was missimg from AoS for me. When I used to play 40k my favourite thing was always making my heroes and converting them up with their custom loadouts and what was cool. So of course as soon as the anvil dropped I quickly sprang into action making, and painting a hero for my daughters of khaine using a miniature I had wanted an excuse to get for ages (jain zar).  Selaina Ravenheart, my ranged rampaging head of my daughters of khaine

Mortal Realms - Knight Incantor

Introducing the latest addition to my Astral Templars Stormhost - Vora Suremane - The Warden of the Howling Gale.    This is the exclusive Knight Incantor that comes with the mortal realms subscription. I must say I prefer this model to the slightly more static pose of the regular Incantor (though I'll be painting up at least two more at some point!), Plus she was great fun to paint with lots of small details to pick out.    Ive tried to get a glowing effect workin

TTS Tournament Game 2: Skaventide vs Seraphon

Seraphon - Scorched Earth My List Seraphon List T1 Took no notes, so I'll be going off memory here and I expect the scores in-between rounds to be wrong except for the final score. I win on drops and let him go first and he generates CCP and absolutely stacks the buffs on Kroak, making him nigh-unkillable with multiple FNP\pass-off saves and sitting on 2+ RR 1's. He put all 4 of his Salamander unit in the sky and brought 1 down to remove the Jezzails Clanrat screen but that was

Wild Beasts in Ghur

“Hold this point you band of wretched souls!” screamed Gathus at the Horde of Chainrasps and the Spirit Hosts he had ordered to guard the edge of the Wyldwood. The trees had not seen a Slyvaneth in so long their magic had faded and it had no sway over the small copse, and so the taint of chaos had taken over and twisted the limbs into a deadly, unforgiving force. The perfect place to hide behind and use to your own advantage. The Nighthaunt had been sent by Lady Olynder to destroy a particu

The Hurricanum pt.1

To take a break from painting my darkshards I've made a start on the celestial hurricanum. I think the model holds up very well considering its age, there's lots of great detail and bitz to keep hold of. It's also probably the most complex kit I've worked on so I thought I'd keep track of my progress. I've made a couple changes to fit with my army narrative which I think work pretty well. The main one is the replacement of the cart horses with a mutant ogre. Lore: One of the Carav

Drawn and Quartered in Ghyran

Keldimir looked over at the Spirt Torment and checked that he was keeping the Chainrasp Horde in some sort of order and was pleased with what he saw. Without his brother Gathus at his side, Rasark was a sharper and stronger Gheist. Nagash had seen the constant and deep-rooted hate that each brother had for the other in life, and when the time was right, he took their souls and made them fight together in the Reaper Brigade. Forcing them to be near one another so that their hate made them fight h

Burning Totems

The living tattoos that traversed his weathered skin surged in unison with his own limbs as they sent the last wooden totem clattering to the top of the heap. Voorg noticed the light dusting of snow that had begun settling in his beard; a storm perhaps? That would be refreshing, he thought, and helpful in obscuring the sight of his fire. It would be best that the others not carry the sight of their ancestors burning with them in their minds’ eyes. His brief moment of calm was torn away

The walls of my Ossiarch Necropolis

So, my latest diorama, is going to be an Ossiarch Bonereapers Necropolis by the stormy ghoulish sea. The only thing is, I don't know what to make the walls look like. In the battletome,  it says that all the Necropolises are meant to be very similar looking, and the walls in the art are made of stone and bone. This makes me feel like I should do them like this, but I don't really know, because I think they look cool, but aren't that interesting. Another option is to make them solely ou

War Stories

A tale of the Freeguilds General Thaddeus Carmoggan met his guests in his spacious study, seated behind a thick, mahogany desk, The accoutrements of his former profession in the Freeguilds surrounded him. A shattered choppa, taken from the dead claws of Gorruk Mangletooth, sat alongside an gold-chased, handcrafted pistol gifted to him from the Ironweld Arsenal upon the defeat of the heretic engineer Lugenbrau. Tattered banners from no less than four different regiments adorned the walls, sque

Mortal Realms - less death rain, more a light drizzle

Continuing on from my last post the next unit from the Mortal Realms magazine has been completed: Castigators provide ranged support in a Sacrosanct army, very much counterparts to the Judicators in a strike chamber. That said the opinion of their performance on the battlefield according to the internet is lukewarm at best....   Still, the units was good fun to paint with alot of detail on the models allowing for a bit of variation from the scheme I used for the Sequitors.

War of Attrition in Aqshy

The Stormcasts stepped out from the forest, shaking leaves and twigs off their once immaculate armour. The Lord Arcanum shouted orders as soon as he saw the Mutiliating Brayscourge in the burning ruins and like a well-oiled machine, all the parts moved as one, forming into defensive units. Molgrur watched as the enemy lined up. Years of fighting them had meant he knew what they were called. And how to kill them. He studied the formation. Evocators, flanked by Knight Incantors, at the front.

The Herd Grows

The Mutilating Brayscourge had stopped to rest in the ruins of an old Azyrite style palace on the edge of the Kindling Forests. They had been travelling for 3 days and with the herd expanding almost daily, chasing, and catching wild animals wasn’t enough to sate the blood gorge which had been growing to the point where the herd was becoming restless and wild. As they travelled, they had been joined by another Great Bray Shamen who had been leading 10 Ungor Raiders after they had fled when t

The Freeguild Marches

Time for the first blog update! Been pretty busy with real life stuff recently but still managed to get some hobby in. Really enjoyed painting to podcasts in the evenings. The last couple weeks I've completed my freeguild guard and built up the darkshards. Pretty rusty at painting so took a couple models to get back into it, though overall very pleased with how they turned out. Learnt a couple painting tips along the way too! Here's all 14, went for a blue and white colour scheme

Brass and Blood

In which the bonds of loyalty are tested under the Blood God's gaze Red skies and orange sun. Fortuitous omens perhaps, on the eve of battle. The army of Halthcar Dreadgaze was camped on the edge of the canyon, guarding the end of the great bridge of Kharathdun. Even above the raucous noise of the warcamp, the bubbling and hissing of the ever-boiling Kharath River could be heard echoing from the canyon, and those closest to the rim constantly felt the roiling heat of what passed for a waterwa

Welcome!

Welcome to my first blog post.  I will be the first to admit that I am pretty bad at this game. Most games I play I'm just an average player. But I love this game and will continue to play. A little bit about myself.  I started around 2014 playing Warhammer 40K with Grey Knights. With a lot of people Dawn of War was my first real introduction into the universe. Fast forward a couple years later and a friend of mine pulled out some dwarves. My first thought was "These are small and
